INSTALLATION & SETUP 1. Attach the Handle to the Drill Unit (Figure 1): Remove the shoulder bolt from the tapped block on the drill unit slide rod (1/4” Allen Wrench), lift the handle into position, and re-install the shoulder bolt. Thrust washers are on each side of the slot in the handle.

2. Secure the Machine To the Floor: Holes are provided on each leg for bolting the machine to the floor if desired. 3. Connect Air to the Clamp Valve (Figure 2): The door clamp requires compressed air @ 90 PSI to operate correctly. Connection to the valve is made at the brass pipe fitting.

4. Plug in the Drill Motor: Plug the drill motor in to a standard 3 prong outlet or suitable extension cord. If a cord is used, 14 AWG (minimum) is recommended. The motor requires 120 VAC @ 7.5 Amps.

ADJUSTMENTS 1. Hole Location (Figure 3): The drill unit can be adjusted to bore between 2-1/2” and 5-1/2” from the edge of the door. To adjust the drill, loosen the two locking levers, move the drill to the desired location and retighten. There are two stop bolts on the drill mount weldment that can be adjusted for minimum and maximum distances to facilitate easy and accurate changeover.

2. Hole Depth (Figure 4): The depth of the drilled hole is dependent on two things: the location of the door relative to the drill, and how far the operator pulls the handle (just like a drill press). For maximum hole depth, the door stop should be positioned such that the drill travels approximately 1/2” - 3/4” before the bit enters the top of the door.

OPERATION

Operation: After the machine is installed and set-up, operation is straightforward. Position the door in the machine with the top against the door stop, activate the clamp using the foot pedal valve, and pull the handle. The drill motor will turn on automatically as it travels forward. When the drilling is complete, unclamp the door.

Drill Bits: The Norfield Ball Catch Machine is designed to use carbide-tipped or high speed steel multi-spur drill bits 6” OAL (over-all length) with a 1/2” shank. The drill motor accepts bits with or without flats on the shank. Norfield recommends the following bits for optimum performance and bit life:

Ø3/4” Ø7/8” Ø15/16” Ø1”
