Congratulations to NPL’s Volunteers of the Month! November 2013: Joseph Daus ................................................................. Joseph is a freshman at Maury High School in the medical program. He swims, plays piano, and is a member of the scholastic bowl team. He participates in JROTC and has received straight A’s since kindergarten. Joseph has volunteered at NPL for just a short time, but he has made a tremendous impact. He has stuffed hundreds of bags with library materials for the Children’s Festival, manned an outreach table at Scholarfest, and helped run prize drawings at the Tech Tune-Up event. Staff members speak very highly of his professionalism and solid work ethic.
December 2013: Nafissa Akers ................................................................. Nafissa was born in Senegal and moved to California in the mid 90s. She is fluent in French, loves reading, and is quite the international cook! She has a daughter who attends Lake Taylor High School and is involved in several sports activities. Nafissa started volunteering at the Barron F. Black Branch Library in November 2013 shelving materials, cleaning books and toys, and assisting with children’s programs. She always comes in ready to volunteer with a smile on her face.
January 2014: Jelly Riedel ................................................................. Jelly Riedel is an Alabama native who moved to Virginia in 2006 to serve aboard the USS George Washington. Recently, she has been enjoying shore duty at the Little Creek Amphibious Base. Jelly has volunteered at the Little Creek Branch Library since June 2013 shelving materials, cleaning books and toys, and assisting with programs. In addition to working and volunteering, her main job is playing the role of wife and mommy. She does manage to squeeze in a few books from time to time and prefers nonfiction books about science or nature.
Thank YOU, Joseph, Nafissa and Jelly, for all you do for NPL! We appreciate your dedication to the Library’s volunteer program.
The “Volunteer of the Month” receives a $10.00 gift card to Barnes and Noble as well as a Certificate of Appreciation. 6
