Greetings from the Headmaster,

As

we approach the end of another school year, we have many opportunities to come together and celebrate in the successes at Norfolk Collegiate School. From awards ceremonies to senior project presentations to games, plays and musicals, our spring is filled with events that highlight what it means to be an Oak. Tonight’s event, the “Hit the Jackpot: Annual Auction & Casino Night” is a great example. Tonight, as we gather together with our friends, family and faculty and join in laughter and fun to raise money for the Annual Fund, remember that every dollar raised will directly benefit every student in every classroom in every grade. Because of the generous support of our donors, we are able to provide a great education for our students. The Annual Fund allows us to go “over and beyond” to provide resources to the arts, athletics, academics, technology and professional development. Please enjoy the efforts of our dedicated volunteers, sponsors, advertisers and donors as you bid on the wide variety of baskets, certificates, trips and treasures! We encourage you to bid high and bid often and of course, enjoy your night!

FUND AN ITEM: 3D PRINTERS

Fund an item is a reverse auction. Our goal is to have 100 percent participation from our auction goers to raise $15,000 for three 3D (three dimensional) printers in our Lower, Middle and Upper Schools. All donations are tax deductible. Previous fund-an-item purchases include the Hackney Theater curtain and equipment for the strength and conditioning and athletic training programs. These printers are making their way into schools embracing 21st Century learning. Just as ink jets and laser printers produce studentcreated documents and images, 3D printers transform student ideas into tangible, 3D objects that they can examine. 3D design and printing allows students to imagine, design and create original objects and to transform their two-dimensional drawings into physical realities. Given the opportunity to create without limits, what might our students make? Incorporating design thinking and digital modeling into our curriculum gives students the opportunity to be problem solvers, critical thinkers, collaborators and creators — all hallmarks of a quality 21st Century education. One 3D printer workstation will be placed in each division for use by teachers across the curriculum. Each workstation will include a MakerBot 3D printer, Mac computer and pedestal worktable to provide our students with the tools to turn IDEAS into REALITY. Auction 2014 Hit the Jackpot!
