Steps to a Sustainable Future

Mentoring Phase During these three months the mentoring group meetings were finished. During this time we had four group meetings: “Magical World of Emotions”, “Conflict Management”, “Human Evolution” and “Reveal Your Past, Present and Future”. The meetings were aimed to reveal the mentees’ inner worlds, fields of emotional expression, problems they face at present, and how to control their behavior during conflicts. Their year came to an end, which gave them a chance to reflect on their past, appreciate their present and value their future. This year’s work was finished by thinking about their career plans and mapping their life path.

Individual Meetings in Nor Luyce Individual meetings are still on. We have 10 active mentor-mentee matches, who have done 117 meetings. During the three months the individual meetings were again realized in an interesting, unique and educational way: visits to museums, exhibitions, jobsites of friends, library, exploring the town, cooking, etc. Our mentors continued visiting the schools, music schools of the mentees, football academy, where one of the mentees studies, and they even took part in different events.

Lead me and I will follow you During these three months mentor-mentee matches finished four meetings. With the help of mentors, the mentee could prepare and present Power-Point presentations that involved the following topics: “Memory”, “Art as a High Quality of Life” and “The 7 Wonders of the World”. The goal of the meetings was to provide both mentors and mentees with another chance to cooperate together, acquire and pass on new knowledge.

Extra-curricular Phase Meetings During these three months phase, the mentees took part in three computer classes. During these classes mentees learned how to use Paint, and they received basic skills in Adobe Photoshop. Using their newly learned skills the mentees worked on different projects to practice their skills.

Skill Building Phase During these three months five group meetings were realized to arm the mentees with the necessary skills for the 21st century; such skills consisted of preparation for applying for a new job and different skills. Those skills include: secretary skills, writing cover letter and CV (resume), filling out application forms and writing business letters properly, as well as creating power points and presenting it professionally.

Overall Group Meetings During these three months three overall group meetings were taken place. Those meetings were: “March 8 — Realize it”, “The Role of Art in the Development of Aesthetic Taste and the World Vision of Teenagers”, and “Intellectual Game—the Smartest Mentee”. The overall goal of the meetings was to improve mentees’ knowledge, expand their perspective and provide the opportunity for them to appreciate art.

Mentoring Training In these three months the mentoring training of the new mentors was launched. The new group consisted of 25 new mentors. During the six meetings the mentors revealed their own personalities and their style of communication. They met with their mentors, learned about their responsibilities as a mentor, and what is necessary to do to have successful mentoring relationships. They learned how to cooperate and work in a team. Along with these trainings, trainer Stephan Shoyan, CYD manager in Peace Corps, organized a training on “Coaching” both for the staff and the volunteers.
