Ba Gua Zhang: Taoist Energy Art of the I Ching Ba Gua Zhang is one of China’s internal martial arts. It combines the energy work of Chi Gung with the concentration and focus of Taoist Meditation. Although the movements are simple, they develop the body, mind, and spirit to become more healthy and joyful in everyday life. Ba Gua Single Palm Change and Thunder Palm Change Workshop This class will teach the complete Circle Walking training that forms the heart of all Ba Gua practice. Beginners will learn the Single Palm Change, which is the first and most primary form of the system. We will train the various Nei Gung (inner work) elements of the form, as well as meditative and martial aspects, including the twoperson Rou Shou practice. Each participant will leave with a complete form to practice on their own. Continuing students will learn the fourth palm change form, the trigram energy of Thunder. Thunder Palm Change teaches the practitioner about how to explode and reverberate within the striking techniques, and specializes in the fists of Ba Gua. On a deeper level, Thunder is about awakening and enlivening the energy within the body, first with the sudden swiftness of lightning, then with the rumbling waves of a thunderstorm, and the gentle rain that follows. Within Thunder Palm we will continue to work with the Taoist Meditation techniques that we learned from BK Frantzis over the last year.
