ABOUT THE ARTISTS Joseph Peters, conductor and host Joseph Peters, Associate Principal Oboe and English horn with the North Carolina Symphony, previously held Principal Oboe chairs with the Minnesota Orchestra and Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. He has performed as guest principal with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and The Florida Orchestra, and for three years, he was a member of the New World Symphony in Florida.

conducted side-by-side concerts for New World Symphony’s MusicLab program. He has been involved in premieres by composers including Aaron Jay Kernis, Jocelyn Hagen, Polina Nazaykinskaya, and Samuel Carl Adams.

In addition to hosting this season’s North Carolina Symphony streaming concerts, Joseph has previously conducted a Holiday Pops concert with the Symphony. He conducts the Taneycomo Festival Orchestra in Branson, Missouri, and was Music Director of the SUNY Buffalo State Philharmonia Orchestra and the Saybrook College Orchestra of Yale University. He has also led a variety of programs at the New World Symphony.

Dr. Marsha Gordon, special guest A Film Studies professor at North Carolina State University since 2002, Marsha Gordon has given talks on American film and cultural history across the United States and in Europe. She has introduced films at venues including the North Carolina Museum of Art and the National Archives, and cofounded Home Movie Day Raleigh. Co-director of three short documentaries and author of two books, she is currently on a Public Scholar Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Humanities. She also appeared on a monthly Movies on the Radio series on WUNC’s show The State of Things for seven years.

Joseph first played with the Minnesota Orchestra at age 18, performing Mozart’s Oboe Concerto. He has also appeared as a soloist with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, New World Symphony, and Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, as well as the Greater Twin Cities Youth Symphonies, of which he is an alumnus. Long committed to teaching, Joseph was the oboe and conducting instructor at the SoBe Institute of the Arts and

Joseph received a bachelor’s degree in music from the University of Minnesota and a master’s degree in music from Yale University.
