For many, college is the first experience living away from home. This workshop will give parents a look inside life in the Residence Halls at NCU, with special attention given to three specific areas: community in the Residence Halls, the roles of the Resident Director and Resident Advisor, and the terminology of the Residence Hall. This workshop will highlight what a parent can do if you believe that your student is struggling.

Presented by Kristie Kerr, Executive Assistant to the President Location: Anderson Chapel - Session B

Starting college, students enter a new and challenging season of their lives. Come and hear what it means to be a parent to a young adult and to stay connected while fostering independence. This workshop will be led by NCU Faculty Parents, and will engage other parents in dialogue on what it means to walk with your child through this new stage in life.

PARENT SESSIONS

Jason Wenschlag, V.P. of Academic Affairs and Desirée Libengood, Associate V.P. of Academic Affairs

Fostering Independence

Presented by Resident Directors

The Vice President and Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs are excited to share about the ways students are challenged to pursue critical thought rooted in scripture and gain skills and competencies for lives of service in society, the marketplace, and the church. This session will cover academic expectations, goals, and highlight the supports in place for success.

PERSONAL SAFETY REMINDERS

A helpful feature of the ID cards is that funds can be placed on the card and used in laundry facilities found throughout the campus.

»

Don’t store valuables in your vehicle.

»

» Treat your dorm room like an apartment. Always lock your doors, no matter how soon you plan to return.

ID CARDS

Walking escorts are available to any of the NCU buildings or parking areas any time of day or night. A security escort is available to any of the NCU buildings, lightrail station, or parking lots year around 24 hours a day. Call 612-343-4445 to request a security escort.

Students are issued an ID card upon arrival to NCU. The ID cards not only identify people associated with NCU, but they also function as an access card to get into buildings, and serve to keep track of meals in the cafeteria according to the meal plan selected. Students are encouraged to wear their name tag in campus buildings.

Walk with a friend.

Security personnel are on duty 24 hours a day, each day of the year, patrolling and monitoring campus grounds, buildings, and parking lots. Security can be contacted at 612-343-4445 or in the Security Office located in first floor Miller.
