Behold, a New Joy!
“And the ransomed of the Lord shall return and come to Zion with singing; everlasting joy shall be upon their heads; they shall obtain gladness and joy, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.” Isaiah 35:10
From the first snowfall to the excitement of families reuniting, from familiar carols to traditions of food and festivities, there is an abundance of joy in this season. But what does it mean to behold a new joy? Who would have thought the Messiah, the coming savior promised to defeat death and sin would come as a baby?
Born in a stable, cradled in a manger, He came forth from heaven and took on flesh to establish the kingdom of God. His glorious gospel reshaped the thinking of the world. He lived for us, and He died for us. If this is our joy, it must be a joy like no other. It must be a joy from the Divine. It must be a joy for all people, all nations, a joy surpassing human understanding and knowledge. This evening we invite you to join in praise and worship of God the Father, the celebration of the coming Son, and the continued intercession of the Holy Spirit. Behold, a new joy!
“Though you have not seen Him, you love Him. Though you do not now see Him, you believe in Him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory.” 1 Peter 1:8

Behold! A new joy! Behold! A new wonder!
A Virgin, who knew not a man, bears a son. She knew not a man, but as the pear-tree bears the pear, The flourishing papyrus brings the lily from the soil.
See how nature changes her laws: A pure virgin bears the son of God.
Steven Sametz Emily Gerard, harp

Angels from the Realms of Glory Please stand and sing for the fourth verse
Behold, a New Joy! Please stand and sing for this carol medley, written for the NCU Festival Choir.
Choir:
Lo, how a Rose e’er blooming from tender stem hath sprung! Of Jesse’s lineage coming as men of old have sung.
Audience:
Come, Thou long expected Jesus, born to set Thy people free; From our fears and sins release us, let us find our rest in Thee. Israel’s strength and consolation, hope of all the earth Thou art; Dear desire of every nation, joy of every longing heart.
Born Thy people to deliver, born a child and yet a King; Born to reign in us forever, now Thy gracious kingdom bring. By Thine own eternal Spirit rule in all our hearts alone; By Thine all sufficient merit raise us to Thy glorious throne.
Solist:
Once in royal David’s city stood a lowly cattle shed, Where a mother laid her baby in a manger for his bed: Mary was that mother mild, Jesus Christ her little child.
Audience:
He came down to earth from heaven, who is G od and Lord of all, And his shelter was a stable, and his cradle was a stall; With the poor, and meek, and lowly, lived on earth our Savior holy.
Not in that poor lowly stable with the oxen standing by; We shall see Him but in heaven, set at God’s right hand on high, Then like stars, His children crown’d, saved by grace, His praises sound
O come, all ye faithful, joyful and triumphant! O come ye to Bethlehem!
Come and behold him, born the King of angels. God from true God, and Light from Light eternal, born of a virgin, to earth he comes! Very God, begotten not created.
Yea, Lord, we greet thee, born this happy morning; Jesus, to thee be all glory giv’n!
Word of the Father, now in flesh appearing.
O come let us adore Him, O come let us adore Him, O come let us adore Him, Christ the Lord!
