PARENT SESSIONS Saturday, August 25

Session One: 7:15-7:50pm

Session Two: 7:55-8:30pm

Access Success: An Overview of the Student Success Center Presented by Krista O'Connor, Director of the Student Success Location: Anderson Chapel - Session A This workshop is designed to familiarize parents with the variety of services available to help students be successful in college. Academic Supports, Career Services, Disability Services, and Counseling Services are geared toward helping your student grow as a vibrant and academically confident learner, discovering purpose that will help bring faith, academic, and job pursuits into harmony, and finding hope that comes from insight, healing, and personal growth. Combining all we do into one office means that we can equip and empower your student in a way that is convenient and connected. The Student Success Center is your student’s one-stop shop for success. Life in the Residence Halls Presented by Resident Directors Location: Sanctuary Session A For many, college is the first experience living away from home. This workshop will give parents a look inside life in the Residence Halls at NCU, with special attention given to three specific areas: community in the Residence Halls, the roles of the Resident Director and Resident Advisor, and the terminology of the Residence Hall. This workshop will highlight what a parent can do if you believe that your student is struggling. Spiritual Formation at NCU Presented by Joshua Edmon, Associate V.P. of Spiritual Life & Dean of Multicultural Engagement Location: Sanctuary Session B The Vice President of Spiritual Life will be sharing on how NCU integrates spiritual formation into the classroom and Higher Education. This workshop will allow parents to see the heart behind faith and the classroom, and what ways this shapes how NCU facilitates class content. There will be a question and answer time as well.

Fostering Independence: Parenting through the College Years Presented by Nancy Zugschwert, Director of Communications Location: Anderson Chapel - Session B Starting college, students enter a new and challenging season of their lives. Come and hear what it means to be a parent to a young adult and to stay connected while fostering independence. This workshop will be led by NCU Faculty Parents, and will engage other parents in dialogue on what it means to walk with your child through this new stage in life.

SECURITY Security personnel are on duty 24 hours a day, each day of the year, patrolling and monitoring campus grounds, buildings, and parking lots. Security can be contacted at 612-343-4445 or in the Security Office located in first floor Miller. Walking escorts are available to any of the NCU buildings or parking areas any time of day or night. A security escort is available to any of the NCU buildings, lightrail station, or parking lots year around 24 hours a day. Call 612-343-4445 to request a security escort. PARKING Students may apply for on-campus, commuter, and street parking online at https://skyline.northcentral.edu/security. Please read the parking regulations and policies on our website for more details and alternative parking options. ID CARDS Students are issued an ID card upon arrival to NCU. The ID cards not only identify people associated with NCU, but they also function as an access card to get into buildings, and serve to keep track of meals in the cafeteria according to the meal plan selected. Students are encouraged to wear their name tag in campus buildings. A helpful feature of the ID cards is that funds can be placed on the card and used in laundry facilities found throughout the campus. PERSONAL SAFETY REMINDERS »

Walk with a friend.

»

Treat your dorm room like an apartment. Always lock your doors, no matter how soon you plan to return.
