BANYAN BATIKS Karen Gibbs, the Design Director for Banyan Batiks, has an extensive background in the textile industry with over 15 years of experience. Karen is passionate about exploring and developing techniques used by artisans in Indonesia, for the quilting industry. Her design experience spans across the home decor, fashion, quilting cotton and batik industries. Banyan Batiks offers distinctive collections by style and color, for ease in coordinating a quilt or final project. Focusing each collection allows exploration within. Whether it be tones of color, scale, or negative space, designs compliments each other. The focus of collections allows our guest designers to explore their creativity, and brings together the artisans of Indonesia with the talented artisans of the quilting industry. Banyan Batiks challenges all aspects of the batik design process, introducing innovative techniques within each collection. Original artwork is designed and colored for that special unique Banyan Batiks look. Product development between our design team and our team of artisans in Indonesia helps create something innovative.

ABOUT PATIENCE GRIFFIN
Award-winning author Patience Griffin has gained recognition with her September 11th Story Quilt which has toured the country as the property of the Pentagon. She has a Master’s Degree in Nuclear Engineering, but spends her days writing stories about hearth and home, and dreaming about the fictional small town of Gandiegow, Scotland.
From traditional yarn dyes to modern big and bold, these plaids are hand painted with incredible color combinations. The most common breed of sheep in the Scottish Highlands is the Scottish Blackface. Multiple hand done processes are used to create these adorable sheep! 5
To pass the time on the long drive, she got hooked on audiobooks—especially romance novels. Within a couple of years, she was writing stories of her own. It was no surprise to her family and friends when she combined her love of quilting, her small town roots, and her obsession with her Scottish heritage.

ABOUT KAREN COMBS
Known for taking a traditional quilt pattern and giving it her own unique “twist”, Karen is intrigued by quilts of illusion. Her unique designs with a 3-D effect can be found in the nine books she has written, including Floral Illusions, 3-D Fun with Pandora’s Box, and Celtic Pieced Illusions.
Gradations of color with a Banyan twist! Karen Combs is known for her gradation creations, including her very popular patterns, which were the inspiration for her collection. This collection is all about color and technique. Each sku has three distinctive tones of one color, clearly defined across the width of fabric, 14’’ to 15’’ of each color, within each sku. 23

ABOUT DAPHNE GREIG
With over 25 years experience in traditional and contemporary quilting, Daphne teaches and presents at major quilting conferences, guilds and shops throughout North America. She has also taught on several quilting cruises.
Daphne’s artwork plays a lot with the monstera leaf motif. In the main print, the repetition and layering of that leaf with vibrant colorations gives the collection a boho feel, which is very popular in home decor. This collection is all about the vibrancy of color combinations, and includes more subtle tone on tone, as well as high contrast with a touch of metallic. 29
Daphne is the author of five quilting books*, she also designs and publishs patterns (as Patchworks Studio) and writes articles for quilting magazines. She has been nominated for ‘Teacher of the Year’ sponsored by the International Association of Professional Quilters, and her work has been exhibited in United States and Canada. *Including Give & Take Fabric Applique™, which showcases her patented two for one, no waste applique technique.

At The Pier features a strong zig zag print with a double tjap technique and wavy circles of color added in. Pat’s retirement from the quilting business has been impossible for her to achieve. Not long after moving to California, she came up with the idea for quilt patterns on a card, well known as Villa Rosa Design Cards.
