We're keeping the buzz alive At North Creek, we do more than propagate plants and produce starter plugs. Sure, that is what we are known for, but what gets us excited every day is our ability to offer beautiful plants for living landscapes. Landscapes that then provide the foundations for life. This is our most important job and it puts the fun in what we do. We pride ourselves in connecting people with nature where they live, work and play. Our lawns and landscapes are being transformed from lifeless decorated shapes, textures and colors to attractive, vibrant, and fully functional ecosystems. This shift in the American aesthetic allows all creatures to share in the richness of our planet. The North Creek team is proud to offer you a wonderful selection of plants that meet your needs, as well, the needs of your customers’. Please join us in rebuilding nature one plant a time.

Pollinator Friendly Growing Practices Healthy plants for a healthy environment! Our mission is rooted in propagating and marketing plants that develop the relationship between people and sustainable outdoor environments. Whether utilized by growers or directly installed into the landscape, our plants directly impact humans and wildlife. This is why we are a neonicotinoid-free nursery. We utilize natural and biological control agents to keep our plants disease and pest free in the greenhouses and safe for pollinators in the landscape. The North Creek way is focused on the triple bottom line–people, planet, and profit. We grow plants that provide nectar, nutrition and habitat for pollinators. Our use of beneficial insects is a frontline preventative and always the first step in our Integrated Pest Management (IPM) growing practices. ✓ We utilize natural and biological control agents to keep our plants disease and pest free in the greenhouses and safe for pollinators in the landscape.

✓ We propagate from on-site seed orchards of local ecotypes to increase the resilience and biodiversity of our product mix.

✓ Spread across 3+ acres, our plant trialing

program features wide-ranging habitat and experimental plantings.

✓ Our extensive stormwater management systems capture and infiltrate all irrigation runoff and precipitation from rain events up to 2 inches.

✓ We are replacing older greenhouses with energy efficient modern structures and have achieved a 70% energy savings just in the first year!

✓ Our new plant introduction principles and trialing program prohibit the introduction of invasive species.

Being a sustainable business ourselves, we are very pleased with North Creek's approach of using beneficial insects and alternative methods of disease and insect control when possible. Being in the green industry, we believe it is important to be in the front line of this approach and mentality; we are excited to buy from a supplier that is doing the same. North Creek Nurseries trial gardens, catalog, website, and facility tours are a fantastic way to learn from their experiences. They enjoy sharing their knowledge with customers which makes them an excellent company with whom to partner. Daryl Kobesky, Production Manager Pleasant Run Nursery

New Introductions We’ve expanded our tickseed collection with 3 new standout selections: Coreopsis ‘Gilded Lace’, C. palustris ‘Summer Sunshine’, and C. tripteris ‘Gold Standard’. In addition to performing beautifully in our trial gardens, each of these varieties was ranked a top performer at the Mt. Cuba Center Coreopsis Evaluation. Mt. Cuba Center's front-runner Coreopsis tripteris ‘Gold Standard’, shows better garden performance than the straight species, and is approximately one foot shorter and blooms for an additional six weeks. The flowers were also born on shorter, secondary growth. Floral display is expressed throughout the entire height of the plant rather than solely atop. Coreopsis tripteris 'Gold Standard'

Anemone × hybrida Wild Swan™ PP23132 A perennial border is not complete without the everlasting beauty and bloom of Wild Swan™. Gently nodding white inflorescences hover above medium green foliage. The noted charm of this selection is the lovely lavenderblue accent coating the sepal exterior. Flowers from mid-summer into autumn. 18” │ Z 5-8 │ 50

Antennaria plantaginifolia pussytoes We’ve fallen in love with this woolly little workhorse! The stoloniferous and mat-forming foliage has a grayish-blue cast and leaves you simply want to touch. Early spring flowers are whitish-pink and bloom several inches above the foliage. An excellent native groundcover ready to choke out weeds. 3-4” (fol) 8” (flw) │ Z 3-8 │ LP32

Athyrium otophorum eared lady fern The new foliage presents in a limey-pastel and adds drama to the overall appearance of this fern. The fronds mature to a medium green creating a unique twotoned appearance through out the season. A fresh new look for shade that we think you’ll enjoy just as much as we do! 15-24” │ Z 5-10 │ LP32

Caryopteris × clandonensis Blue Empire™ PPAF According to our friends at Plantipp, the motto of this stunning, new Caryopteris is big, blue & beautiful! We found that to be 100% true in our own trial gardens. Long flower wands have extra-large blooms and last weeks on end. Superior low growing habit; excellent landscape and cut flower appeal. 30-40” │ Z 5-8 │ LP32

Coreopsis 'Gilded Lace' Another knockout as seen in the Mt. Cuba trials, the entire plant is covered in blooms from end to end during late summer through fall. Unique lacey, fernlike foliage is mildew resistant. Prefers moist, well-drained soils in full sun. A Peter Heus selection brought to market by Plants Nouveau. 4-5’ │ Z 5-9 │ 72 + LP50

For comprehensive information on all species evaluated in our Trial & Demonstration Gardens, please contact our Research & Development team at marketing@northcreeknurseries.com.

Coreopsis palustris 'Summer Sunshine' Awarded 5 stars from Mt. Cuba Center Coreopsis trial as one of the MOST disease resistant tickseeds. Vigorous mounds of foliage reach up to a sturdy 30” in height with a bright and sunny end of summer bloom that lasts a full 6 weeks. C. palustris is slower to spread and can tolerate wet roots for extended periods. 3-4’ │ Z 6-9 │ 72 + LP50

We offer beautiful plants for functional landscapes that regenerate nature for our planet.

Hydrangea arborescens 'Haas’ Halo' PP24783

Monarda punctata spotted beebalm We adore the genus Monarda for so many of its wonderful properties including fragrance, ease of growing, willingness to naturalize an area reliably and all of the wonderful things that it can do for beneficial insects and pollinators. Excellent for meadows and naturalistic plantings. 24-30” │ Z 3-9 │ LP50

Packera obovata roundleaf groundsel Similar to the durability we’ve come to appreciate from its relative P. aurea, but more withstanding of sun and heat. The traditional golden-yellow flowers also start a bit later in spring. Native to eastern and Southern US.

4-6” (fol) 12-18” (flw) │ Z 3-8 │ LP32

Tricyrtis formosana 'Gilt Edge' An eye-catching combination of foliage and flower, 'Gilt Edge' was selected for superior vigor and aptly named for the attractive gold margin outlining the dark green foliage. Unique, lilylike flowers are dotted in dark purple accents and appear in quantity later summer into fall. 18-24” │ Z 5-8 │ 50

Where Horticulture Meets Ecology

I look to North Creek for awesome varieties that aren’t yet mainstream, and I look to North Creek for great quality plants and consistently reliable service. I look to North Creek because over the years I’ve come to realize that they are my kind of people and it’s nice to like the people you do business with. I like their (presumably unspoken) “do no harm” motto. I like that they stick to their convictions even when it costs more than the easier path. I like that they evaluate potentially awesome plants long enough to discover if they truly are as awesome as they first appeared, rather than just hawk me some beautiful perennial you know I’ll fall for if you take the picture at just the right time and in just the right light. If North Creek was a person, they would be that awesome friend I wish I got together with more often to talk about plants and birds and music and other random fun stuff over drinks.

Since incorporation into our trial gardens, this Rick Ray selection has been drawing attention from customers and pollinators alike! Deep, bluishgreen, leathery foliage and 14” wide, pure white lace cap blooms make for a stunning combination in any setting. Simply put, it’s a show-stopper! 3-5’ │ Z 3-9 │ LP32

North Creek is that rare company that stuck to what they believed in – even when it cost them more to do so – and in the process became an exceptional company filled with great people. Paul Westervelt Annual & Perennial Production Manager Saunders Brothers, Inc.

New Collection | Helleborus Winter Magic™ After ten years of selecting and collecting seed, Thierry and Anneke Van Paemel, along with their children Tom and Tineke, are happy to be finally offering the Winter Magic™ strain of hand selected Helleborus orientalis to growers all over the world. Our robust 18-cell trays (3.25” × 3.25” plug) will fill 1 and 2-gallon containers quickly, making production much shorter and sales more economical than other seed strains currently on the market. These strains true to their descriptions. The goal at Het Wilgenbroek, their retail garden center in Belgium, is to further expand the hybridizing range of interspecific hellebores and to offer a true seed strain by color and type of their Helleborus orientalis selections. Along with his staff, Thierry has been working for the past ten years to select seedlings and group them into type and color ranges. Each year they rogue out plants that do not fit the selected type and collect seed from plants that do, strengthening their seed strain lines. We're thrilled to have the Van Paemel's Winter Magic™ hellebores included in our product mix.

Available Spring 2018! Helleborus orientalis 1. 'Pearl Jester', 2. 'Hocus Pocus', 3. 'Blue Mojo', 4. 'White Mojo', 5. 'Apricot Fortune', 6. 'Red Fortune', 7. 'Pink Juju', 8. 'Voodoo', 9. 'Enchanted Yellow' Helleborus orientalis Winter Magic™ single mixed colors also available!

Where horticulture meets ecology.

North Creek’s availability makes them our first stop when looking for quality native plant material for our designs. We’ve come to find both their website and Landscape Plug Manual trusted and invaluable resources for us as designers. We get great use out of the species section chart in the Manual - it helps us determine exactly which plants will thrive in our designs. If we find ourselves getting stuck and need to find substitutions, their ecological sales team is always ready to provide a solution.

In addition to being knowledgeable, we enjoy doing business with North Creek because they’re FUN! 9

Much of our work involves the use of native plants, and we’re proud to put their plugs to work in our designs. Recently a section of turf adjacent to the LaSalle University Student Union was transformed into a beautiful garden with the help of North Creek’s Landscape Plug product line. Looking back, I remember their team going the extra mile to get what we needed on a very short turnaround from design to installation.
