North Creek Propagation House: Landscape Plugs™

Why Landscape Plugs™ Work PLANT SOLUTIONS for ecological landscapes Our Landscape Plugs™ are built to survive and thrive in even the harshest site conditions. Their design encourages healthy root growth that adjusts quickly to the soil in which they are planted. Inbuilt root guides prevent root circling and ensure vigorous plant establishment and development. Working with Landscape Plugs™ is easy and conscious of the environment. Each plant grows in just enough soil to successfully transition it into the landscape. Multiple plant plugs per flat eliminate the need for individual plastic containers, translating into a tremendous savings in terms of resources and freight cost. We are here to help you navigate through the complex process of site planning, species selection, proper installation and long-term landscape maintenance. Our team of growers and shipping professionals will make sure your plants arrive in excellent condition and at the proper time of year for installation. Let us help you coordinate your project schedule with the plants’ growing cycles for successful project completion.

Sustainable Growing Practices HEALTHY plants for a HEALTHY environment  We utilize natural and biological control agents to keep our plants disease and pest free in the greenhouses and safe for pollinators in the landscape.  We propagate from on-site seed orchards of local ecotypes to increase the resilience and biodiversity of our product mix.  Our soil mix is comprised of coir, local compost and composted pine bark—custom blended for the Landscape Plug™ product line.  Our extensive stormwater management systems capture and infiltrate all irrigation runoff and precipitation from rain events up to 2 inches.  We are replacing older greenhouses with energy efficient modern structures and have achieved a 70% energy savings just in the first year!  Our new plant introduction principles and trialing program prohibit the introduction of invasive species.

STORMWATER MANAGEMENT

A new generation of superior stormwater management systems is on the horizon and North Creek is leading the charge. Water treatment systems need not be boring expanses of turf or lifeless blankets of mulch any longer. City of Lancaster: Urban Rain Garden Retrofit ÂŚ Lancaster, PA

FEATURE PROJECT: The Hunt at Louviers Stormwater Management Planting ¦ Newark, DE In partnership with the Delaware Department of Natural Resources (DNREC), The City of Newark, Wild & Scenic White Clay Creek and the helping hands of over 100 passionate volunteers, three turf-covered stormwater basins were converted into ecological oases with vastly improved water cleaning capability. Over 28,000 regionally appropriate native perennials transformed not only the stormwater basins themselves, but added biodiversity and life to an entire neighborhood. Homeowners now overlook a lush habitat bounding with colorful insects and birds. Related Projects: Camp Hill Special School Stormwater basin ¦ Camp Hill, PA

NO-MOW SOLUTIONS

Naturalistic meadows and designed meadow gardens are the turf of the future. Traditionally manicured lawns are ecological deserts that consume staggering amounts of petroleum-based fertilizers, pesticides and fossil fuels. Redefine how turf is incorporated into corporate campus designs and right-of-way installations. North Creek Living Laboratory: Mid-height Meadow ÂŚ Landenberg, PA

FEATURE PROJECT: Roland Park Country School Urban Meadow Garden ¦ Baltimore, MD Through the collaboration of students and staff at Roland Park Country School and the team at Blue Water Baltimore, a struggling patch of turf grass was transformed into an urban meadow teeming with pollinators and vibrant native plants. The result is a living laboratory for ecological, science and art studies used by students, teachers, parents and guests. This extraordinary meadow inspires, educates and illustrates how simple it is to make similar ecological enhancements to your backyard—a stress reducing environment to enjoy year-round. HABITAT ENHANCEMENT & LANDSCAPE RESTORATION

Healthy plants are the foundation of every habitat and the keystone of restoration projects that flourish. Without host plants for caterpillars to feed upon, there are decreased populations of butterflies and birds. Without seeds of native grasses, birds go hungry in fall and winter. Key plant species are disappearing from our landscapes at an alarming rate. We are here to help reintroduce those species, thereby stabilizing food webs and interspecies relationships. Longwood Gardens: Meadow Garden ÂŚ Kennett Square, PA

FEATURE PROJECT: Longwood Gardens Meadow Garden ¦ Kennett Square, PA Habitat and restoration projects enhance the beauty of existing landscapes. Longwood Gardens added over 100,000 plants of exceptional ecological and aesthetic value to an existing meadow plant community and dramatically increased its biological and functional diversity. This newly enhanced space is a magnet for garden visitors. Guests leave inspired to translate what they see and feel into the smaller scale of their home landscape.
