Leave the foliage up through winter, the birds will thank you! 5’ | Z 3-9 | LP50

Athyrium ‘Godzilla’ giant Japanese painted fern An introduction by Plant Delights Nursery in 2009, this Japanese painted fern is a monster. Growing up to 3’ tall and spreading up to 6’ wide, ‘Godzilla’ has the appearance of ‘Picta’ with the punch of an ostrich fern. ‘Godzilla’ is great in shady locations in moist soil to dry shade. 3’ | Z 5-8 | LP32

Athyrium otophorum eared lady fern The new foliage presents in a limey pastel and adds drama to the overall appearance of this fern. Dryopteris filix-mas ‘Parsley’ male fern An easy-going deer-resistant fern with crinkly, crested foliage. Schizachyrium scoparium ‘Standing Ovation’ PP25202 little bluestem Selected for its truly upright habit and electrifying fall color, ‘Standing Ovation’ is one of the best little bluestems. Our Approach to Integrated Pest Management (IPM) We utilize natural and biological control agents to maintain plant health and ensure plants remain disease and pest free in the greenhouses and safe for pollinators in the landscape. The North Creek way is routed in the triple bottom line—people, planet, profit. We grow plants that provide nectar, nutrition, and habitat for pollinators. Our use of beneficial insects is a frontline preventative and always a priority in our approach to Integrated Pest Management (IPM).

Our IPM Steps Include: ✓ Setting Action Thresholds Determine economic and aesthetic thresholds for pest pressure on plants.

✓ Scouting and Identification

Inspect plant material regularly to identify pests and disease.

✓ Prevention and Control

Employ biological controls and soft chemistry to control pests and disease.

Over 3 acres of garden space make up our living laboratory. From a tall meadow to a constructed wetland to vegetated retaining walls and side-by-side trials, we use these areas to evaluate our catalog material and trial plants brought in from plant breeders, industry suppliers, native plant enthusiasts, and our own selections. Plant material goes through a rigorous vetting process and must meet the standards of the New Plant Principles—the plant is garden-worthy, not aggressive or invasive, and requires little maintenance once established. Catalog and trial materials are evaluated by our staff, and you, our valued customers! Plant form and habit, disease and pest resistance, culture, wildlife value, and potential for landscape or garden application are all taken into consideration when deciding on what plants we’ll bring to market. What does this mean for you? When visiting our trial gardens, you are seeing the plants as they are—their growth patterns, their drawbacks, their relationship with insects and wildlife, and their limitations. The information we gather and share is based on three decades of real-world experience, plant trials, critical feedback from our customers, and global collaborations with entities and individuals engaged in scientific research. North Creek was recently recognized as SANC compliant, becoming the 2nd nursery in the Keystone State and the 5th nursery in the nation to receive this designation. The Systems Approach to Nursery Certification is a certification system based on how plants are produced rather than how plants appear at the time of a single inspection. SANC is an ongoing effort to incorporate the designated processes into existing state based certification programs to reduce pest risk and disease movement while facilitating and expediting the handling of nursery stock. What does this mean for you, our customers? An even higher level of growing practices to ensure clean, healthy plugs produced efficiently with less handling—streamlining processes on our end saves time and money on your end. A win-win!

A MESSAGE FROM STEVE

15

“My deeds must be my life, when I am dead my actions must speak for me.” Those words were written close to 190 years ago by Stephen Girard, a noted Philadelphia merchant, mariner, banker, farmer, and philanthropist. Stephen Girard founded Girard College, the school I attended as a child and young adult. I have recited these words often since first reading them in my youth. They hold great meaning for me and express a sense of purpose when I might doubt why we do what we do in life and in our business. I am privileged to be leading our company and am proud to know that what we do in our work lives affects positive change in the lives of our employees, customers, and the world around us. These continue to be exciting times at North Creek. In 2018 we are proud to be celebrating our 30th year in business. A lot has happened over that time, but one thing has remained the same, our dedication to provide our customers with the best perennial starter plants in the trade. We know you have many choices when it comes to choosing a perennial plug supplier. Thanks for making us yours.

Our custom tags are a beautiful and informative way for you and your customers to promote your products. All tags purchased will match the quantity of plugs per flat—what you need is what you get!
