About Our Club Northeastern University’s Fashion & Retail Society strives to create an environment where students can learn, experience and be inspired by fashion. We actively seek out fashion professionals to talk to our members about gaining relevant experience, networking, starting a company, design, marketing and more to provide an environment that connects students to fashion internships, co-ops and jobs. We work hard to educate our members about the business and retail sides of fashion, as well as the design, creative and editorial aspects.

Fashion Co-Op Panel On Oct. 29, the Fashion & Retail Society held its annual fashion co-op panel where six Northeastern students talked about their experiences with and their advice on approaching a fashion co-op. One piece of advice that most of the panelists agreed upon was the way in which one should dress for an interview. They principally suggested dressing appropriately, but being true to your style is imperative. In addition, they said not to wear formal suits, as these may be viewed as too serious and may show you do not have a unique style. All in all, the fashion co-op panel made for an eventful evening with a wonderful turnout of those eager to hear more from the panelists as the hour came to an end.

Blog & Magazine The Fashion & Retail Society website not only provides students with information on the organization and its members, but also serves as a news source for the fashion industry. We showcase many articles on topics such as: Northeastern’s fashion-forward students, beauty tips, industry news, and information on our annual fashion show. During spring 2014, our online fashion magazine, The AveNUe, was launched. Currently producing our fourth issue, The AveNUe is an extension to the website, giving students the opportunity to showcase their interests in fashion. Members of the magazine work in different teams to meet the goals of each issue. These teams include: styling, graphic design, photography, public relations, marketing, and editorial. If you are interested in the fashion or beauty industry, the editorial team will work to create a position for you to help grow your resume and expand your understanding of the fashion industry’s different fields.

If you can’t tell from the fall semester recap, we (your F&RS e-board) keep ourselves pretty busy planning lots of events for you guys! In addition to weekly general meetings featuring speakers and co-op panelists, in the spring, we host our annual fashion show! This year, we’re excited to present our 5th annual fashion show, Style in Revolt! The theme of the show will take the progressive attitude of the 60s and transform the decade’s most iconic trends into contemporary looks. The show features both menswear and womenswear and will reflect the attitude of the era with bold patterns, styles inspired by the “Flower Power” movement, Mod subculture as well as other cultural influences. Our show is entirely student run, planned by F&RS, showcasing student models, DJs, some student designers and more. If you’re a student designer, DJ, model or just interested in getting involved with the show, email northeasternfashion@gmail.com!
