With 25 years behind us, and a future filled with possibility, Northern Clay Center announces our 18th annual fundraising benefit and celebration of the art of the pot. This three-day event promises exceptional offerings of contemporary American pottery and outstanding conversations between collectors, makers, learners, and supporters.

What is the American Pottery Festival (APF)? Fundraiser: Above all else, APF is Northern Clay Center’s annual fundraiser. All contributions and NCC’s portion of all purchases during this weekend-only event support NCC’s programs that advance the ceramic arts.

talks take place Saturday and Sunday, and are always included with your $5 donation at the door. APF is a weekend filled with occasions for artists to chat with other artists, students, clay lovers, and collectors from across the US.

Exhibition and Sale: APF launches with a Preview Show each spring in the sales gallery. This sneak peek at the work of our 25+ APF artists continues online for a few months. Annually, we invite a group of artists who work in diverse materials and methods — from the unpredictability of a piece fired in a wood kiln, to the grace of slipcast porcelain, and everything in-between. You will recognize some beloved names and be introduced to artists we hope become your new favorites! APF culminates each September in a three-day sale and exhibition of over 1000 pots.

Collector Adventure: Whether you have years of experience as a collector, are a relative novice, or are simply a student or maker, the Collector Adventure is an opportunity to visit private and corporate collections, enjoy special access to artist studios, participate in a curator-led tour at a local museum, learn during workshops and artist slide talks, and attend private parties with the visiting APF artists.

Conference: Many of the invited APF artists travel to NCC to join us for the weekend. They present artist talks, demonstrations, or hands-on workshops during, and in the days leading up to, this highly-engaging event. Pre-festival and weekend workshops are priced separately. Artist slide

Community: APF is a time to come together to discuss and celebrate the studio pottery tradition in the United States. It has grown over the years into an event saturated with generosity, talent, vision, and encouragement. This is all due to a wonderful community of artists, buyers, enthusiasts, hosts, educators, volunteers, sponsors, staff, and our board of directors. WWW.NORTHERNCLAYCENTER.ORG

NCC brings you the work of 25+ artists from around the country, and between Friday night and Sunday afternoon, you’ll have the opportunity to enjoy thousands of pots and purchase some for your own collection.

The American Pottery Festival is NCC’s largest annual fundraiser. Money raised during these few days goes to support the advancement of the ceramic arts through our education, exhibitions, outreach, and artist services programming. There are many ways you can support NCC throughout the APF weekend:

NCC is a community-based organization with a national and international presence, and has grown and thrived for 25 years, and will continue to do so for the next 25+. Annually, NCC reaches thousands of people through our various outreach, education, and studio programs, and through the sales and exhibition galleries. Whether you are a student presently, or from years ago, an aspiring resident artist, a new shopper in the gallery, a loyal collector, or a dedicated maker from the Twin Cities or beyond, we encourage you to attend this year’s American Pottery Festival. Come to learn, connect, explore, shop, and be a part of our amazing clay community.

NCC offers shipping to the US and Canada, whether you would like to ship a gift or are traveling from out of town and don’t want to transport your new pots. Just let us know when you purchase your pots, and we will make the arrangements. Now you can buy as many pieces as you like and not worry if they’ll fit safely in your suitcase!

Friday, September 9 American Pottery Festival Opening Night ($25 tickets available at the door or online) 5 – 6 pm Members Only Preview Hour 6 – 9 pm General Admission Saturday, September 10 ($5 donation at the door or online) 9:30 am – 5 pm Sunday, September 11 ($5 donation at the door or online) 9:30 am – 2:30 pm

Thank you to our generous sponsors at U.S. Bank FlexPerks Rewards for supporting our opening night and weekend festivities.

• Purchase a piece of work donated by one of our APF artists. 100% of the income goes directly to support NCC programs. (A genuine thank you goes out to all of our APF artists!) • Attend our Opening Night party ($25) with a few of your favorite people. • Become a Northern Clay Center member and enjoy the benefits that come from being a part of our community. • Round up your $5 door donation on Saturday and Sunday or make an additional donation in any amount. • Buy a pot (or 10!) from the presenter of your favorite artist talk. Or from each of them if you can’t decide! • Make an even bigger impact by supporting NCC with a larger gift. $2000 can accomplish the following: support a studio fellowship for one emerging artist for an entire year; fund a ClayToGo residency for 150 school children; help us reach our goal for a new ClayMobile 2.0 to expand our reach to students, artists, and communities.

NCC Membership NCC members benefit by being part of a rare community of artists and supporters working to advance the ceramic arts. In addition to supporting a unique, medium-specific organization and its programming, your membership will provide you with discounts to classes, workshops, and pottery in the sales gallery. Another benefit to your membership is access to the Members Only Preview Hour at American Pottery Festival, from 5 – 6 pm on Friday, September 9. If you are not already a member, consider purchasing your membership before APF to take advantage of special workshop pricing as well. Call, stop by the gallery, or sign up online!

Shop Online NCC has hundreds of pieces for sale online by our American Pottery Festival artists as well as our year-round gallery artists. Please visit our website at www.northernclaycenter.org/store.

Personal Shopper If you aren’t able to join us for APF, we can still assist your purchase with our personal shopping service. Please register as early as possible so we are able to send images and then work with you to choose your favorite pieces. Sales of APF work open on Friday, September 9 at 6 pm (5 pm for members), but it’s advisable to work with our staff beforehand so we can pull exactly what you’d like at that time. We are also happy to help you purchase work by our year-round gallery artists that is not available online. Send us an email at salesgallery@northernclaycenter.org.
