No poultry or fowl shall be handled by anyone other than the registered exhibitor. Neither the Fair board nor the County will accept any liability for injuries (animal or human) if exhibits are handled by anyone other than the exhibitor.
All 4-H members must be present with their small animal projects for conformation and showmanship class judging. Members must own the animals they show. Pen class needs to include 2 hens and 1 rooster of the same class and variety. Exhibitors are responsible for feeding, watering, and cleaning their cages on a daily basis, morning cleanings must be completed by 10:00 a.m. Pair classes shall consist of a rooster and a hen, or a cockerel and a pullet, of the same breed and variety. Chicks must be at least 3 weeks old to be on exhibit.
All poultry must be free from lice and other infestations. No infested birds will be allowed to be exhibited.

Must have proof of current rabies vaccination. Dogs must stay in dog show area. For safety reasons, dogs must be at least 14 months old. Dogs must be entered in a class comparable to their level of training regardless of level of handler. Equipment needed: proper leash (6’ leash recommended, may also run without a collar), water and treats for dogs & humans outside the arena, chairs, a sense of humor & lots of patience!!!!!! No treats in the show ring. No female dogs in season will be allowed to compete. Dogs must be uninjured and free from communicable diseases. Dogs must be presentably groomed with nails trimmed. Each owner/handler is responsible for their dog’s behavior. Any dogs exhibiting acts of aggression will be disqualified and asked to leave the grounds. Dogs must be on leash or in their crate at all times except during performance in the ring. CLEAN UP AFTER YOUR DOG IS MANDATORY!!!! Trash containers will be near by for disposal of waste. Bring your own pick up bags. Animal will be disqualified if the dog fouls while in the ring. Any unmeasured dogs will be measured at check-in, day of the show. Dog can be entered only once in Standard and agility. There shall be NO severe discipline or abuse of dogs, no special training collars (spike, pinch, etc), chain leashes, or tags allowed while at the fair. Exhibiting such behavior or using such equipment will result in being immediately ejected from the fair grounds and forfeit all awards. Cloverbud class exhibitors must be accompanied by parent/guardian or 4-H leader while in the show ring for safety. Dress code: recommend khaki shorts or slacks and polo type shirt. Handler must wear closed toed, tie-up shoes. (ie: tennis shoes, leather shoes, boots, etc). No advertising logos. If judge deems inappropriate attire, you may not be able to enter classes.
A walk through without your dog will be allowed prior to each class. Standard course will be offered for each class.

Costume: Dog and handler will be judged together as to creativity, how the dog is able to move without hindrance from costume. Learning Objective: to demonstrate outfit coordination, creation, and a confident attitude during judging.

Barn areas must be maintained in a clean and organized manner. A club member and a parent and/or leader need to be on duty in the barn area and be available to meet the public.
All Club exhibits MUST have a club sign listing the following: club name, leader's name(s), member's names, and club exhibitor number. All exhibits will be judged individually and then collectively as a club exhibit. The decision of the judge is final. All 4-H entries are to be exhibited under Department R. Club signs do not receive premiums. See club poster requirements on page 84.

Only ONE entry per class by any one exhibitor (some exceptions are specified.) Exhibitors may not enter their 4-H project in open class. All 4-H members who register an animal entry must sign up and serve a barn duty shift in each barn they have animal exhibits. An adult must also sign up with children 10 years of age or younger.
All 4-H members and leaders are expected to conduct themselves as ladies and gentlemen while on the Emmet County Fairgrounds by being respectful of the rights of others, to assume any given responsibility and abide by their respective conduct statements, Exhibitor Agreements and County 4-H policies.
All exhibitors in Department R are also subject to the "General Rules and Regulations” shown in the front of this book, including "State Health Regulations” for all livestock, as well as exhibitor limitations based on age.
To exhibit in this department, a 4-H member must be currently registered with their county 4-H office in the project areas that they list on their fair premium statements. Ages for exhibitors are determined as of January 1, 2010 of the year of the fair. 4-H members must be at least 5 years old (by January 1, 2010) 4-H Exhibitors between 5 & 8 years of age will receive “Cloverbud” participation ribbons only. Cloverbud classes are found on page 70 for projects and page 71 for animals and for horses.
This department is open to all youth ages 5 – 19 years old enrolled in registered 4-H Clubs in Emmet or Charlevoix County. The FINAL enrollment deadline for a 4-H member to participate in 4-H classes at the Fair is May 1st. Check specific project areas for other earlier registration deadlines.

HEALTH REQUIREMENTS FOR LIVESTOCK EXHIBITED IN MICHIGAN
All livestock shown must be the bona-fide property of the exhibitor at the time of making entry. The only exception will be Cloverbud exhibitors. Cloverbud exhibitors may borrow an animal for exhibition. Forage, consisting of hay, and sawdust for litter will be supplied. Exhibitors must furnish forks, pails, and grain. All livestock and animal exhibits must be in place Sunday, August 22, 2010 by 12 Noon.
All three-year-old heifers in the several classes as breeding stock shall be required to have borne a calf or show evidence of being with calf previous to the exhibition or the heifer cannot compete.
No animals may compete for more than one prize in any class or division unless by reason of special exception to the rule referred to elsewhere. Animal exhibits may be entered in either “Open Class” or “4-H” but not both.
GENERAL RULES FOR LIVESTOCK
Department R projects, Division 1-10 and 15 can be brought to the Community Center from 3 – 7 pm. Friday, August 20th and 9:00 am to 11:00 on Saturday, August 21st . The Community Center will then be closed from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm for project judging. Clubs may return to set up their displays from 5:00-6:00 pm on Saturday or Sunday from noon to 6:00 pm. The building will be closed Monday, August 23rd for Open Class judging.
4-H PROJECT JUDGING
Many 4-H projects exhibited in the Community Center MUST be accompanied by a written report listing the skills learned in completing the project. See class description for specific requirements.
EDUCATIONAL PROJECTS
All entries in this department must to be pre-registered by 5:00 pm. On Friday, July 23rd . This requirement applies to all Emmet and Charlevoix County 4-H entries. Registration forms, entry tags, and fair books may be picked up at either County Extension Offices after July 1st and completed registration forms may be returned to those offices any time up to the July 23rd deadline. Please do not return or send 4-H entry forms to the fair office. Entries not received by the deadline will only be eligible for open class exhibition.
