Great Start

WRITTEN BY ALVINA TRAN

Every since the start of the school year, our club has been off to a great start. There has been a huge increase in member participation compared to last year, mostly consisting of freshmen. Every month, we have gotten multiple events and socials planned. By keeping this up, I believe we will continue to have success in the club throughout the school year. The goal for this year was to provide events that are not all marathons for the members. Last year, we had too many marathons and by the end of the year, the members got burned out. So far, we’ve provided the members with events like Tango Tab, Feeding the Homeless, Tri-city Clean Up and a few marathons like Pink Walk, Turkey Trot, and the Dallas Heart Walk. We’ve also plan to provide more socials like the baking social, pumpkin carving social, and movie night social. We’ve also had a donation drive for the SPCA. Compared to last year, we have more things planned out. For the fundraising aspect, we have some ideas planned. Charging members a few bucks at socials like the baking social and pumpkin carving social helps a lot with the cost of supplies.

So far, the officers thought of fundraising at boba shops like Ding Tea. Having a baking a bake sale is another good idea. We’ve also raised the membership fee to an extra $5 Fundraising early on would help a lot with the cost of LEDCON in the spring. Last year, the officers didn’t plan that many fundraisers so the cost of LEDCON was a bit high for the members. The president had suggest that we promote LEDCON early so by the spring, the members would be more excited and having more information about attending.

Because only 4 officers attended last year, we hope to have a lot of members attending. Having a large group of members attending is beneficial because it would allow them to see what Key Club is about and how other clubs are doing. Although cost can be a huge factor, we hope that lots of fundraiser and promoting it at every meeting will build up the excitement.

Overall, the 2022-2023 has been off to a great start.

With the new, eager freshmen class coming in member participation will not be an issue and will help bring more excitement at events. The officers have lots of things planned for the coming months. I’m excited to see the growth of our club as the year progresses.
