Going Green
WRITTEN BY YEN DO
Every year, our Key Club does a project that most of our events and fundraisers revolve around. The events are supposed to help the cause of the project, and as a club, we must also fundraise and advertise for the project. This year, we are planning to do something related to the environment due to how much pollution has and will affect our lives. Specifically, we are looking into beautifying our school’s courtyard. As of right now, our school’s courtyard is not in the best condition as little attention and maintenance are given to it. For a place that’s supposed to be lively and reserved for social gatherings, it appears barren and abandoned to outsiders. All the trees and bushes are either dead or dying, and the ground is littered with debris or trash that has flown over from the wind. We are hoping to plant more vegetation like flowers and to tend to the trees and bushes, in hopes that they will start growing again. Not only will we add to the courtyard, but we will also clean up the area and pick up any trash.

Of course, this beautification will not last forever without care, so we are looking into regularly maintaining the area in the future. This project is not exactly cheap, and we will need an efficient grant for it to happen. That is why our events will be planned around this project, so we can receive a YOF grant to carry it out. We have had a TriCity Cleanup event very recently, and we are planning to seek out more events similar to it to promote a positive environment. In order to receive the YOF grant, our Key Club will also be sure to plan fundraisers around the project and leave a sizeable portion of our money for it. Finally, we will advertise this After all, small efforts like this will build up to make a big change. project and our goals for it to show our dedication. By doing all this for our courtyard, we hope to attract more people and clubs to use it for social gatherings. In the past, little to no people were aware that the courtyard can be reserved, but by giving our courtyard more life, Key Club will advertise let the school know that it can be used. After everyone sees our endeavors to change the courtyard, we hope to eventually spread awareness to our classmates to be more wary of their actions that may affect the environment.
In the grand scheme of things, changing one courtyard make not seem like much, however it is.
