in the many, well- documented benefits of regular sauna bathing, so they turned their entrepreneurial minds to the task of bringing this critical practice to as many people as possible. To that end, they chose a location in the beating heart of downtown Coeur d’Alene and set to work creating a space of beauty, peace, and healing.

The history of sauna bathing can be hard to trace, however, what are believed to be the first saunas are located in Finland dating all the way back to 7,000 BC. Sauna has since remained an essential part of Finnish culture with the majority of personal residences having a built in sauna. The Finnish sauna is dry and hot. At HeatPraxia, our saunas are set to 194 degrees, but in Finland, some saunas are set at 230 degrees! Since the beginning of sauna, many cultures have adopted the practice worldwide.

A typical sauna experience at HeatPraxia includes a rotation through the sauna, cold plunge and red light. The average visit consists of about 10 to 15 minutes in the sauna followed by a few minutes outside the sauna to cool down. During this brief cool down, some people choose to rest for a moment in front of the red light panel while others choose to cold plunge. The process is repeated 2 to 3 times during the 55 minute session. We recommend repeating this practice 2 to 4 times per week.

The practice of rotating through cold and hot environments is known as contrast therapy. Here at HeatPraxia we offer 3 cold plunge tubs with continuous 20-micron-ozone-ultraviolet

filtration system kept at a consistent 39-44 degrees. There are many benefits to contrast therapy; to name a few, it reduces inflammation, relieves muscle soreness caused by lactic acid buildup, improves circulation and burns fat.

The health benefits are so vast, they really require their own unique article. Some of the most notable are: pain relief, mood enhancement, longevity, improved sleep, the production of heat shock proteins ( these proteins protect and repair cell damage), anti-aging, enhanced immunity, improved cardiovascular health, toxin elimination, hormone regulation, reduced depression, stress and anxiety and the list just keeps going! These are some of the many reasons why we chose to
