VOLUME 11, ISSUE 15
Perhaps the most devastating consequence of the Fall was the effect it had on human relationships. Having lost the security that comes from having a relationship with God, man and woman had now become obsessed with asserting their own worth, typically by casting blame on someone else. This is where the proverbial “battle of the sexes” began. No longer was woman man’s “suitable helper.” She had become his rival in a contest for dominance. The irony of the Fall is that men and women are now alone in the midst of their relationships. There is no way we can go back, but God in His grace has established a way for us to go forward, to find fulfillment in the five areas of purpose once again, to enjoy a relationship with Him that is more intimate and complete than we could ever have known in the Garden of Eden.

Between Easters BILL CHAPMAN Northland at Mount Dora Site Minister
So are you laughing and dancing? I look at the struggles and suffering of God’s people at Northland at Mount Dora and ask, “Lord, how can they laugh and dance?” I see the shattered relationships, the failures and the fears of the Lord’s flock, and wonder how we can overcome. Well, the answer is to live between the Easters. The first was when He rose from the dead; the second will come when we see Him face to face. At the first Easter, the penalty for sin was completely and wo weeks ago, the Northland at Mount fully paid. At the second, the impact of sin will be eliminated Dora family gathered to watch Mel Gibson’s from your life. Between the two, we make it our life’s purpose The Passion of the Christ. Not Good for Man to Be Alone JEREMY JOBSON Northland at Oviedo Site Minister
A
lthough this verse is referring to the immediate creation of a partner that would be suitable for man, a woman, we see in this a picture of the importance of relationship. God Himself is a relationship: Father, Son and Holy Spirit, three in one, one in three. There are many mysteries and lessons that are very important for us to learn from that reality, and as hard as they may all be to comprehend, one of them is clearly that we are not to be alone! This is so much bigger than a spouse and even a family; this is a call to community! Dr. Margi McCombs shared a few years back the power of the word “community,” and I have never forgotten it. “Common-unity”: to have something in common that binds us together in a unifying and deep way. That is at the heart of Northland at Oviedo. From small groups and Bible studies to our upcoming Sunday lunches and fellowship events, we are constantly trying to create space and time for you to get to know each other and Christ better. That takes lots of attempts and options with everyone’s busy schedule and life stage, but the most important thing it takes is you! Getting involved in the Christian life with everyone in your sphere of influence is, at the end of the day, your choice! Developing a common language, culture and purpose to something bigger than ourselves, bigger than our “church” and even bigger than our geography unifies us in such a powerful way, a way that nothing else can. This is the experience of
soldiers like in the Band of Brothers, of sports teams, of new moms and dads, to be involved in something that is common, sometimes hard and other times joyous, but common to each other, united in it. “Common-unity.” We are on this adventure together, of forming, developing and inspiring community here at Northland, at Northland at Oviedo and in East Orlando. That is why we had the Easter Picnic in the Park. I pray not only that you were there, that you had a blast or even that you brought people with you; although I have been praying all those things, I pray mostly that you were able to find “common-unity” with others either during the kickball game, by the grill, cooking, while looking for eggs with your kids or while sitting at a table, eating. I pray that as you get to know one another better, you will begin to see the opportunity before you to pursue a better knowledge of Christ together through classes, Bible studies, small groups and the Sunday worship experience. And then another amazing thing happens: The response to those realities begins to form deep within you, and you find yourself serving others together not because someone asked you, although someone might, but because you couldn’t imagine not expressing your gratefulness to Him through service to others. That can look many different ways too, from Sunday as a part of some ministry area to in the community at the Hope Foundation or in your neighborhood, mowing a lawn or bringing a meal, to around the globe through the many partnership opportunities. Our job is to be sure and create all those spaces and times for community and worship and service. That is what we do. The question is, What is keeping you from jumping in? Start now. Get involved. Be a part of it! Start simple; say hi to someone you don’t know today, hold the door for someone, let someone go first in the parking lot, but most importantly, remember this: God said it is not good for us to be alone, so please don’t be. Even as a family, don’t be alone. Be a part of the Northland at Oviedo community!

Answer: GENESIS
Together Forever Genesis 2:18 God has never wanted us to be alone. In the beginning, after He created the first man, the Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is just right for him.” God knew that people would need to be close to one another. Friends help make each other stronger and more loving. Friends help each other through hard times and celebrate good times together. Most of all, God knew people would need to be close to Him. That’s why He sent Jesus — to make a way for us to be close with God forever. Jesus came to save the people from their sins so that anyone who believes in Jesus can be close with God forever! He came for love — to love us and help us love God and one another.
Janice is 2:18. Check it out.

Sharing Life Stories
Real. Relational. Evangelism. Saturday, April 17, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., rooms 4206-7, Longwood site
J
oin this engaging one-day seminar to learn how to tell the stories of God through your own life story. When asked what was most fulfilling about this seminar, recent participants responded: This is the first time I’ve ever written my story. I realized I was still carrying some baggage that I needed to give to Christ. Thank you! Hearing those around me share their stories publicly, hearing about the different styles of serving, seeing other believers wanting to grow in their faith. The encouragement that we are doing the work of God and that He is doing His work through us. Upon taking this material, the most fulfilling was the recognition of what type of storyteller-evangelist I am and then knowing how to apply this to others.
NEX WEEKTEND!
Learning I have a story, but not in the “traditional” sense. Christ was always in the car of my life, but I had Him locked in the trunk for several years. It’s a story I can now tell with practice. We should know that it is not what we say that matters; it is that we continue to say what God leads us to say regardless of outcome. It is not by our words that others are saved. God will save them even when we say the wrong things if they believe by faith in grace through the power of Jesus. I love you all, and I love Northland! Registration: 1) Visit www.northlandchurch.net. 2) Select “Get Equipped” on the top menu bar. 3) Select “Join a group or class!” 4) Find “Sharing Life Stories,” then select “Join the Group.” 5) Then follow the online instructions. Child care is not available. Details and registration: Patty Sattler (patty.sattler@northlandchurch.net or 407-949-4010)
Get Away and Come Together!
Reconnect With Your Spouse at Weekend to Remember Conference
L
ife has a way of taking a toll on relationships, perhaps especially marriages. Couples start out fully focused on each other. But as the years go by, the time for relaxing together and enjoying each other gives way to responsibilities and busy schedules. Before you know it, checking e-mail on Saturday is more important than date night. Family Life’s Weekend to Remember conference provides a chance for you to get away from the distractions of daily life and reconnect with your spouse. Cell phones are shut off. To-do lists are temporarily forgotten. It’s a time to slow down and reconnect. Each conference provides a warm, engaging
atmosphere and a focus on making progress rather than placing blame. The insightful speakers teach how to work through differences, improve communication and rekindle romance. As part of Northland’s focus on marriage, arrangements have been made for couples wanting to attend this invigorating event. Register under the group name “Northland2010” between April 5 and 26 for any one of the June conference weekends at www.familylife. com/groups/northland2010, and receive a two-for-one rate of $129 per couple by using the promo code “INVITE.” Discounts for hotels also may be available with registration.

BUILDING HEAVEN-LIKE FAMILIES
Preaching the message this weekend: Dr. Joel C. Hunter, Senior Pastor
Dr. Hunter believes we can accomplish more because of our differences than we would on our own—without giving up our unique identities. He says, “Both spiritual and intellectual maturity grow from differences. A distributed church uses contrasts to accomplish Kingdom purposes.” Since June 1985, Dr. Hunter has served as senior pastor of Northland. Before bringing his family to Northland, Dr. Hunter served as a United Methodist pastor for 15 years in Indiana. He and his wife, Becky, have been partners in the ministry since their marriage in 1972. A longtime bridge builder who seeks common ground for the common good, Dr. Hunter approaches today’s issues in a biblical and balanced manner. He serves as a national and international leader both in compassion issues and on boards of agencies such as the National Association of Evangelicals and the World Evangelical Alliance. >>> TO READ MORE ABOUT DR. HUNTER, VISIT WWW.NORTHLANDCHURCH.NET.
THIS WEEKEND’S MESSAGE:
“I AM … not myself” Hope to Find Another Along the Way (The Search) Scripture focus:
Genesis 2:18 (NASB)
..................................................................................................................................................
Then the LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone; I will make him a helper suitable for him.”
Worship focus: ....................................................................
Worship Christ today for His everlasting love. He created us for relationship with Him and others. It is His love that acts through us, as He conforms us into His image day by day.
NOTES: summary prayer: ....................................................................
Father, we know that Your very nature is love. Fill us with Your love. “Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails” (1 Corinthians 13:4-8, NASB).
NEXT WEEKEND: Dr. Joel C. Hunter | “US” — the Shared life we want to build | How to Have a Heaven-like Marriage | Ephesians 5:21-26, 33

WHY should I be generous? God calls us to give back a portion to Him as an act of worship and obedience. HOW should I be generous? Follow the chart as a path to spiritual maturity. WHERE should I be generous? To your church and your neighbor in need. FOLLOW THESE SIMPLE STEPS: 1. Find where YOU are on the chart (follow your annual income to your current weekly giving). 2. ADD ONE by moving one to the right or beyond to determine how much you are willing to grow in your giving. 3. Give out of love, and be a cheerful giver. 4. Give thanks for and attention to the blessings He bestows as a result of your giving.
Bring a gift in proportion to the way the LORD your God has blessed you. (Deuteronomy 16:17, NIV)
