POTTER'S PASTURE MOUNTAIN BIKE TRAIL BY MURIEL CLARK Lincoln County Convention & Visitor’s Bureau

D

id you know that the best-maintained system of mountain bike trails is only a 30-minute drive from North Platte? Potter's Pasture, located just ten miles south of Brady is a renowned stop-over for mountain bike enthusiasts from all over the country. According to the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, Potters Pasture is comprised of more than 1,300 acres of privately owned land. Steven Potter provides the land while local biking enthusiasts provide all of the labor and equipment to maintain the trails. The terrain is varied - trees and valleys for shade, some nice gradual climbs, then there's the wicked Six-Man trail that only six people have ever completed without stopping. The course is fun and as challenging as the bikers make it, with so many trails you could ride daily for a month and not have to take the same trail twice.

aterskiing or cycling around Lake Maloney will certainly work up an appetite. Put down the fast food, because The Lakehouse is North Platte's dining destination. It is easy to see why the Lakehouse at the inlet of Lake Maloney is home to six 2011 Reader's Choice Awards: New Business, Atmosphere, Italian Food, Family Owned Business, Date/Romantic Place, and Coldest Beer. Dining lakeside while enjoying live performances at the stage by the lake is a recipe for a decidedly relaxing atmosphere. We suggest trying some of the local favorites including chicken fried steak, seafood tacos, or the pasta portofino. Their specialty? The Lakehouse Burger. If it is a thirst that you are trying to quench, enjoy one of their famous sangrias or order one of their many brands of beer. Whether dining, drinking or dancing, The Lakehouse is a great place to visit! For more information visit www.lakehousenp.com.
