Evolving out of the steamy suburban jungle and the techni-colour reef of Far North Queensland, the natural and industrial have merged to form Auto-Organica, an exhibition of new works by Cairns artist Daniel Wallwork. In his latest exploration into aspects of the Australian car culture, Wallwork dissects the processes of the automotive repair industry, reassembling and re-contextualizing car parts to create hybrid, hard-edge, ‘industrial organisms’.
Reclaiming the lines and forms of cars which are often borrowed from nature, Wallwork has created several new works including a large cascading wall-to-floor installation entitled ‘Colour Tsunami’, made entirely from discarded bumper bars.
