An exhibition of works on paper with the intriguing title ‘Solitary Lesion’ by Archibald and Blake Prize winning artist Euan Macleod opens this week at KickArts.
The exhibition is a selection of intaglio prints by the New Zealand born artist, who is best known for the bold brush marks and rich texture of his paintings and drawings.
In Solitary Lesion, Euan Macleod has translated the textured surfaces of his paintings into printmaking, resulting in haunting images on paper so thickly embossed the ink resembles scars.
The ‘solitary’ in the title is explained in the content of the works – a dreamlike, sole figure walking in an unknown landscape.
Euan Macleod collaborated with three master printmakers for the works of art in Solitary Lesion, Ron McBurnie, Michael Kempson and Paul Smith.
