"Face to Face is a new exhibition of photography, installation and drawing by Cairns artist Barbara Dover examining the intensity of our relationships with our pets, through mixed media works portraying people communicating warmly in eye contact with their pets.
The works also touch on the moral responsibility we have for animals as well as addressing – as the philosopher Noske terms it – the ‘animallikeness’ of humans and the ‘humanlikeness’ of animals.
‘Research is making new findings about animals’ intelligence, their ability to think and their capacity to feel both pain and emotion,’ Barbara Dover said. ‘Face to Face explores the deep relationships humans have with their companion animals.’
