MAKING WAVES IN THE MODELLING WORLD

YOUʼVE PROBABLY NOTICED the unparalleled natural beauty of Bermuda — not only in its natural landscape but in its people, who are beautiful inside and out. Even if you’re not from Bermuda, you might recognise one local, 23-year-old named Aliana King. Of Bermudian and Puerto Rican descent, King is making a name for herself in the modelling world after signing with the New York branch of Elite Model Management in 2022.

Born and raised in Bermuda, she left after high school to pursue this passion; and four years later, her dream came true. By the time Elite brought King on board, she was already a force in the modelling world. At age 16, she and a few other Bermudian models were featured in a swimwear shoot in the American lifestyle magazine Nylon Her likeness has graced the pages of Vogue, Marie Claire, and Elle, and she achieved “cover girl” status with Elle’s 2019 Mexican edition. King modelled for Maybelline in 2018 and appeared in promotional videos for a Nordstrom/ Nike sportswear collaboration and a line of loungewear designed by Kim Kardashian. She even starred in a 2020 music video for Lenny Kravitz’s song, “Ride,” bringing a youthful exuberance to the footage filmed on location in Paris.

After living in New York and London, she moved to Los

Angeles in 2020. Now backed by Elite, King is poised to join giants like Tyra Banks, Cindy Crawford, and Heidi Klum, who were also represented by the renowned agency. She announced her signing to the world via her Instagram page, which has 127,000 followers.

“Life has a way of letting you know you’re in the right place,” she says in a post featuring a selection of photos and videos of her life in New York. “Four years ago, I visited New York with my dad to sign with an agency. Even back then, without knowing much about the modelling industry, I knew that I wanted to be with @elitenyc. Now, four years and a whole lot of knowledge, commitment, and growth later, I’m so happy to be signed with my dream agency. I’ve always been blessed with an amazing support system, and I’m so grateful for this new chapter. I have an overwhelming feeling that I’m where I need to be.”

In 2023, the Bermudian model was featured in a campaign for David Yurman, one of America’s most recognised jewellery companies due to their signature design concepts. Other top names who have modelled for the brand include Gisele Bündchen, Naomi Campbell, and Kate Moss.

King has used her social media and modelling success to inspire younger generations, including her work with the #curlygirlroundtable social media initiative, which aims to spark meaningful conversations between people of mixed ethnicities.

This is the place to get all your duty-free liquor purchases as well as their Goslings merchandise. Look out for Goslings limited-edition rums, including the Goslings Family Reserve Old Rum, bottled in once-used Champagne bottles individually dipped in black wax, or the extremely rare Goslings Papa Seal Single Barrel Bermuda Rum.

Nearby, you’ll find the high-fashion boutique Lusso, where well-known brands like Lilly Pulitzer and Fendi are offered at better prices than you’ll find in the U.S. thanks to Bermuda’s absence of sales tax.

Your trip around the block ends at 59 Front, followed by Chatham House on the corner by Burnaby Hill. 59 Front offers an extensive range of exclusive brands in beauty and cosmetics, designer fragrances, jewellery, accessories, and Bermuda gifts.
