Kelsey and Randy met on a catamaran trip to Buck Island, an uninhabited cay off the island of St. Croix, where Kelsey was living at the time and Randy was vacationing with friends. The couple took turns visiting one another, Randy traveling to St. Croix and Kesley traveling to Fort Lauderdale. Randy made the move to St. Croix to be with Kelsey in 2017, two days before Category 5 Hurricane
Maria ravaged the island. The couple evacuated to the states and returned to St. Croix in December of that same year. When it came time to say “I do,” the couple opted to do so on the island where they met, fell in love, and live together as a couple.
Kelsey shares her thoughts on the couple’s Virgin Islands wedding vendors.
“We didn’t use a wedding planner and Kelly helped us with a lot of different decisions. She helped a lot with the timeline and where we needed to be, and her photos are absolutely amazing.”
James Family Florist
“They were really easy to work with. All we ordered was a bouquet and boutonniere and I had no idea what I wanted. They were patient with showing me different options and helping me choose.”
Bar
Sunny Shore Up
“They were super helpful in determining how much alcohol to order.
The crew had great attitudes and had everything set up and cleaned up exactly as they’d said they would.”
Events - Pro Rentals
“He set up a day early for us and had everything set up exactly where it was supposed to be. It was a pretty easy process.”

When it comes to destination weddings, the Virgin Islands offers not only breathtaking backdrops but also unique, handcrafted gifts that capture the spirit of the islands. Whether for the happy couple, the bridal party, or guests, wedding gifts from the Virgin Islands blend artistry, tradition, and a deep connection to the sea.
Jewelry is a timeless wedding gift, explains Therese Trudeau, owner of Crucian Gold in St. Croix.
“Wedding gifts are so special and unique, and Crucian Gold’s handcrafted designs ensure that each piece tells a story of love, securing that special bond,” says Trudeau.
One of the most beloved pieces is the Crucian Love Knot, a signature handmade design that symbolizes unity and devotion.
“Come ‘tie the knot’ with Crucian Gold,” she says, noting that these knots are inspired by
St. Croix’s rich sailing culture.
Another unique design is the Turkshead Knot, also known as the St. Croix wedding band.
“Each ring starts as a single strand of gold or silver wire, tucked and tied into a beautiful decorative sailing knot,” says Trudeau.
This elegant representation of commitment makes for a lovely wedding band or anniversary gift.
For those embracing tradition, Crucian Gold also offers Chaney jewelry — shards of antique pottery and china found across the island, carefully set into earrings, bracelets, pendants, rings, cufflinks, and money clips.

The music at your wedding reception brings an undeniable energy and dynamism to your celebration. There’s nothing quite like live music to elevate the atmosphere and engage your guests in a way that recorded music simply cannot, plus we love the idea of supporting local musicians!
Making waves in the local live music scene are The Housewives of St. John––part of the local island label, Good Duck Records. Your guests will be up and moving with their blend of Rock, Reggae, and Island vibes. Lead vocals and guitarist, Travis Riddle says the idea behind getting together was “to create a community band that everyone on island, as well tourists could enjoy coming to hear. We didn’t want to be a run of the mill, standard Vegas-type act.” The Housewives will cover everyone’s favorites from the Rolling Stones and Johnny Cash to Grateful Dead and Cyndi Lauper.
The four-member band has had the opportunity to share the stage with some of the acts they have looked up too such as: Collective Soul, Joel Cummins, and Issac Eady of the Tedeschi Trucks Band, among others. They are currently recording their debut album with their first single, “Molly Jones” soon out on all streaming formats.
Check them out locally at the Beach Bar, Lovango Rum Bar, The Windmill, and The Fred.

“If you’re considering a destination wedding, we truly can’t recommend it enough,” says Ericka. “Seeing our family and friends soaking in the beauty of the island, laughing, dancing, and celebrating with us made our hearts so full. It was everything we could have ever imagined.”
Gyasi Clarke
“We saw Gyasi perform on our first trip to St. Croix almost four years before our wedding. It felt like a full-circle moment to have him perform at our wedding ceremony. He is brilliantly skilled and deeply soulful.”
“Their talent made everyone feel like the most beautiful version of ourselves. Beyond their artistry, they brought a calm, fun energy to our bridal suite, making the morning even more special. And despite all the late-night dancing, our makeup stayed flawless through every joyful, sweaty moment.”
Corinne Farinola with STX Weddings “Corinne made sure our day was nothing short of perfection. Her confidence, professionalism, and seamless execution put all our nerves at ease. She went above and beyond, assisting with everything from dinner reservations to filing our marriage license. Hiring Corinne was the best decision we made. She is the one you want by your side.”
Antilles Lilies
“When it came to our wedding flowers, I had a very specific vision. Gloria truly brought it to life. All of our florals were absolutely stunning.”
Meredith Zimmermann
“Simply put, Meredith is the absolute best at what she does. She was a breeze to work with and made us feel so comfortable. She captured the joy and fun of our weekend perfectly, and we will cherish our photos for the rest of our lives.”
The Mermaid at The Buccaneer
“The Mermaid was a perfect blend of an indoor/outdoor reception.”
The U.S. and British Virgin Islands have long been cherished as idyllic wedding destinations. The pristine beaches, crystalclear waters, and lush landscapes provide a picturesque backdrop for couples seeking a romantic and memorable celebration. Current venue trends in these islands reflect a blend of traditional Caribbean charm and contemporary elegance.
DID YOU KNOW?
Whether it’s an intimate beachfront ceremony, a luxurious resort wedding, or an adventurous outdoor celebration, find a venue with just the right blend Caribbean charm and contemporary elegance.
Naturally, outdoor ceremonies that showcase the beauty of the islands remain an attractive choice. Couples often select venues with breathtaking views, allowing the serene environment to enhance the significance of their vows. Gallows Point Resort on St. John offers such an option, with panoramic vistas that create an unforgettable setting.
"Couples love our outdoor ceremony spaces that overlook the azure waters, providing a stunning backdrop for their special day," says Gallows Point Resort’s Jamaica Hamilton.
To maintain an intimate atmosphere, many couples opt for venues that can accommodate both the ceremony and reception. This seamless transition enhances the flow of the event and keeps guests engaged. At Gallows Point Resort, for example, couples can host their reception at the on-site open-air restaurant, Ocean 362.
“Our guests appreciate the convenience of moving effortlessly from a heartfelt ceremony to a celebratory dinner without leaving the property,” says Jamaica.
Incorporating local elements into wedding celebrations is a wonderful way to tie your special day with your chosen wedding destination. One such trend is beach-themed seating arrangements, where tables are named after beloved local beaches like Maho, Hawksnest, and Cruz. This not only personalizes the event but also immerses guests in the island's culture and geography.
Music plays a vital role in setting the tone for any wedding, and in the Virgin Islands, the melodic sounds of steel pan music have become a favored choice. This genre infuses a lively Caribbean rhythm into the celebration and encapsulate the spirit of the islands.
Several venues across the Virgin Islands have embraced these trends, offering unique experiences tailored to couples' desires:
Carambola on St. Croix: Nestled amidst lush tropical landscapes, Carambola provides secluded beaches and elegant event spaces, perfect for intimate ceremonies and receptions.
CocoMaya on Virgin Gorda: This beachfront venue combines modern chic with island charm, offering stunning views and exquisite cuisine, making it ideal for contemporary couples seeking a stylish celebration.
Westin Frenchman’s Reef on St. Thomas: Offering expansive ocean views and versatile event spaces, this venue caters to both large and small gatherings, ensuring a personalized experience for every couple.
Sebastian's on Tortola: Known for its laid-back atmosphere and beachfront location, Sebastian's offers a relaxed setting for couples desiring a casual yet beautiful wedding.
The Buccaneer on St. Croix: As one of the Caribbean's longest-running resorts, The Buccaneer blends historical elegance with modern amenities, providing a timeless setting for weddings.
The Virgin Islands continues to captivate couples seeking a wedding destination that blends natural beauty and cultural richness with modern amenities. By embracing outdoor ceremonies, and personalized local touches, weddings in the Virgin Islands are both timeless and contemporary. Whether choosing a historic resort or a chic beachfront restaurant, couples are sure to find the perfect setting to begin their wedded bliss in these enchanting islands.
Turn your dream vacation into a lasting reality with stunning real estate options designed to suit your lifestyle.
Why let the end of your Virgin Islands getaway feel bittersweet when you can own your piece of paradise? If island living has captured your heart, now might be the perfect time to make it your reality. Whether you’re considering an investment property
or imagining a permanent retreat in the sun-kissed Virgin Islands, there’s a wealth of opportunities to explore, with homes and land spanning budgets from $500,000 to more than $12 million.
On St. John alone, you’ll find more than 200 land listings on the
MLS, offering a range of views and price points from under $100,000 to more than $7 million.
Condos are another excellent option, ideal for part-time island life or a savvy investment. St. John features 18 unique condo complexes, each offering distinct amenities and finishes to fit your style.
Owning a home here can be an exciting adventure. Outside of Cruz Bay, most homes operate independently, using cisterns for rainwater collection and on-site septic systems. Electricity comes from underwater cables connecting to St. Thomas.
The perks of Virgin Islands homeownership are plenty: no restrictions on investment-only purchases, no deadlines to develop land, and low property taxes. As a U.S. territory, property ownership follows the straightforward "fee simple" model, making the process even more appealing.
Ready to take the leap? Local real estate professionals are here to guide you, ensuring you find the perfect fit for your dreams and lifestyle. Your personal slice of Virgin Islands paradise is waiting. What are you waiting for?
JULY 8, 2023
De-Shawna and Jalani met not long after the global pandemic began, when De-Shawna decided to return to her native St. John for a visit.
Jalani, a native of St. Lucia, was also on St. John visiting family.
“Because of COVID-19, the airport in St. Lucia was closed and Jalani couldn’t fly out, leaving him stuck on St. John,” says De-Shawna. “We both ended up at my sister’s birthday party where we started talking and getting to know one another.”
The couple opted to get married on St. John, where their families live. They chose to wed just after St. John Celebration, the island’s annual carnival which wraps up July 4.
De-Shawna shares her thoughts on the couple’s Virgin Islands wedding vendors.
The Windmill Bar
“Mr. Jones from The Windmill made sure our venue was ready for our big day by trimming the grass and making sure we had clean restrooms for our guests. He is such a wonderful guy. The view is so stunning and calming.”
IN THEIR OWN WORDS
Andre Hill and Autumn Annice Photo & Co.
“They worked alongside each other to capture our moments.
Up to this day, I’m still enjoying looking at the photos and videos.”
“The day started off with pouring rain but at the end it didn’t matter because it led to a beautiful sunset with a view,” says De-Shawna.
“Everyone was laughing, dancing, and enjoying themselves.”
Your wedding day may be meticulously planned, but what about the days leading up to the big event? With friends and family gathered in one place to celebrate, why not create unforgettable moments that bring everyone closer together? It’s the perfect opportunity to showcase your chosen destination and encourage bonding between your loved ones.
You’d be remiss if you came all the way to the Virgin Islands for your wedding and you didn’t get out on the water with your guests. Calm, crystal clear seas and captivating marine life are part of what makes this destination so stunning.
If your crew enjoys active outings, check out St. Croix’s Sea Thru Kayaks. Their “Ocean Kayak Experience” tour is a fun, competitive kayaking event.
“This tour includes paddling challenges and games that pit participants against each other
and teams going head to head in a variety of fun on-the-water challenges,” says Sea Thru Kayaks owner Craig Harms. “Relay races, slalom courses, capture the flag and other on-the-water competitions spark a friendly rivalry and build experiences that
form lasting memories of unique fun here on the island.”
Sea Thru Kayaks’ six-mile paddle along St. Croix’s northwest side from Salt River Bay to Davis Beach is another active way to enjoy the island’s sparkling seas. For an experience that everyone from your youngest niece to your great-aunt can enjoy, try the National Park tour, a less physically demanding experience that highlights the island’s Salt River Bay National Historical Park and Ecological Preserve. Or, add romance and mystique to your pre-wedding fun with a bioluminescent tour.
“Our mainstay Bioluminescent Bay tour, focused on St. Croix’s Bioluminescent Lagoon, gives participants the opportunity to see up to five different bioluminescent species from our fully transparent kayaks,” says Craig. “Our tours can be a bonding, once-in-a-lifetime, exhilarating experience and we do everything that we can to cater to the unique requirements of each group.”
If you’d rather sit back and relax while on the water, check out the many ways Stormy Pirates can elevate your pre-wedding activities. From proposing at sea to a private charter for two, boat charter excursions lend an air of romance.
“Picture this: you and your partner aboard a beautifully decorated
boat, the sun dipping below the horizon, and as the world fades away, you kneel down with the sparkling waters creating the perfect atmosphere to ask that lifechanging question,” says Stormy Pirates owner Kristie Weiss. “For couples looking to celebrate their love in an intimate setting, a
private charter to an uninhabited beach allows for a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Our licensed and ordained captains can even officiate a small ceremony on the beach.”
Bring your friends and family in on the fun with a celebration at sea.
“Our Stormy Pirates Charter can host larger parties, accommodating your friends and family for a unique wedding experience,” says Kristie. “From lively receptions with dancing under the stars to casual brunches on deck, your wedding can be as festive and fun as you desire.”
Take the time to create moments that will be cherished for a lifetime. From kayaking adventures to romantic boat charters, the Virgin Islands offers countless opportunities to connect with your loved ones in a truly unforgettable setting. Embrace the beauty and adventure of your destination, and let the memories you make be as special as the wedding itself.
JANUARY 31, 2025
Lauren and Timothy met one another through their respective professional lives. She works for a builder selling homes and he is a land developer who built two of the communities Lauren was working in. After a year of seeing each other regularly at work, the couple started dating.
“Both of us were previously married and we said we weren’t ever going to get married again, but we clearly can’t live without each other,” says Lauren. “Every day was more exciting than the one before it. We love being together and we have so much in common.”
After ringing in the new year at Scrub Island in the British Virgin Islands, the couple chose the private island resort for their wedding. Lauren shares their thoughts on the couple’s Virgin Islands wedding vendors.
IN THEIR OWN WORDS
Scrub Island
“It could not have gone more perfectly. I’m pretty laid back. My only outside vendor was our photographer. Scrub Island took care of everything else.”
Amanda Baker
“Amanda is a phenomenal photographer. She’s incredible. You just barely knew she was there.”
Scrub Island
“Chelsea is incredible. She made sure every detail was covered and took care of all the arrangements.”
“My advice would be to go simple, because the ocean is your backdrop,” says Lauren. “Just keep it simple and enjoy the day. It was the most perfect wedding day ever because we just focused on one another.”
AnnaGrace in Cameron met in middle school and have been best friends ever since. They grew up and made memories together before deciding to marry on the island of St. John.
“St. John has always been special to me because my mom and dad honeymooned there 30 years ago,” says AnnaGrace. “I had been back once with my family in 2018 and got to bring Cameron to my favorite place in the world in May of 2023. He proposed on Hawksnest Beach during that trip and we decided to come back to marry in front of our closest family and friends.”
AnnaGrace shares her thoughts on the couple’s wedding vendors.
Voodoo Charters
“This was an absolute must for me from the moment I started planning the wedding, and Voodoo made all of my dreams come true and more. Their staff is so much fun and everyone had the best time.”
Blue Glass Photography
“Alain was so kind and easy to work with. I’m not great at taking pictures and neither is my husband, but he made it so easy and fun. The photos were stunning and we will cherish them forever.”
IN THEIR OWN WORDS
“The week that we were in St. John for our wedding was truly the best week of my life,” says AnnaGrace. “Being surrounded by all of my favorite people and in my favorite place was just as incredible as we had imagined.”
Buds & Roses Fiori
“Jessica made probably the most beautiful bouquets I’ve ever seen. I sent her just a few inspiration pictures and she made magic.”

A Virgin Islands wedding is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and a little planning goes a
long way in making your special day seamless and stress-free.
• Determine your budget and guest count early. Do you want a small, intimate ceremony with close family and friends, or a large gathering with extended relatives and colleagues?
• Send out "Save the Dates" 6-8 months in advance, followed by formal invitations 3-5 months before the wedding.
• Be specific about your guest list—indicate if children are invited and clarify "plus one" policies.
• Create a wedding website to serve as a central hub for travel details, event schedules, and local recommendations.
• Provide suggestions for accommodations and activities so guests can make the most of their time in the islands.
Your wedding is about celebrating your love story. Design a day that reflects your style and personality, and remember—the more fun you’re having, the more your guests will enjoy the celebration too!
With these tips in mind, you’re well on your way to a magical wedding in the Virgin Islands. Cheers to love, adventure, and a beautiful beginning!
Navigating between the many U.S. and British Virgin Islands is a breeze thanks to public and private charter options.
With eight main islands in the U.S. and British Virgin Islands, there is much to see and do in this archipelago. You’ll arrive by air on St. Thomas, St. Croix, or Tortola’s Beef Island. From there, the islands are well connected by ferry boat and air service.
About 46 miles south of St. Thomas, St. Croix is the most farflung of the area’s main islands. Travel options between St. Thomas and St. Croix consist of a ferry, which crosses open ocean and is not recommended for those with motion sickness, and seaplanes and small airplanes that offer regular service.
St. Thomas and St. John are just three miles apart with regular ferry service that runs on the hour, every hour, provided by Varlack Ventures. This long-standing business also provides rental cars, which are highly recommended, on the island of St. John.
You’ll arrive by air on St. Thomas, St. Croix, or Tortola’s Beef Island. From there, the islands are well connected by ferry boat and air service.
There are many ferry options between the USVI and the BVI including Speedy’s, which connects St. Thomas, Tortola, and Virgin Gorda with regular service. Travelers should note that a passport is required when traveling between the USVI and BVI. Varlack Ventures offers the Charlotte Amalie Downtown Ferry service. The ferry is most convenient for airport and downtown visitors. They also offer ferry service between Red Hook and Cruz Bay in St John. Varlack also offers car rentals in St .John .You will find affordable prices, reliable cars, and a friendly knowledgeable staff .
If you’d prefer to travel on your own schedule, look into a private water taxi like the service offered by Ocean Dreams, which also offers island tours, day boat trips, and taxi services in the USVI and BVI. Ocean Dreams even offers ferry service from Puerto Rico to the U.S. and British Virgin Islands. While ferry schedules are generally adhered to, it’s best to call ahead to verify check-in and departure times, particularly when traveling between the USVI and the BVI. Happy island-hopping!
AHA Events
“Ali was exceptional in everything. We would not have been able to pull our dream wedding off without her. She was a critical piece of the vision, logistics, execution, and day-of event support. In the planning and vendor management leading up to the wedding, we often had issues that only Ali could solve. Frequently, the people she knew or her connections on the island saved the day. We had events at seven different venues over five days with logistics and accommodations for almost 100 people, and everything went smoothly. That doesn’t happen by accident. Ali is an absolute pro.”
Bitter End Yacht Club’s Quarterdeck
“The warm, cozy wood of the venue contrasted beautifully with the light and bright white worn by our guests. The taste and presentation of the cocktails could be at home in any world-class bar or restaurant. Truly an intimate venue that felt as if you were let in on a secret.”
Saba Rock Resort
“Absolutely beautiful venue with great food. With the moored boats in the background and the palm trees lining the tiny island, it was truly the best welcome to the BVI and set the tone for the rest of the wedding weekend.”
Crab & Tomato Bruschetta Catering
“Fresh food, expertly prepared, and plenty of it. They hit the right blend of upscale and casual for each event. The visuals of the food, chefs/ servers, and decorations were top-tier and added to the vibe.”
CocoMaya
“The most fun party venue in the BVI. Aaron, the owner, took our wild theme of black lights and fire and ran with it. The result was better than we could have imagined. The food was excellent, both the taste and presentation. The drinks were superb. The festive staff and bartenders added so much impromptu fun and excitement to the night.”
IN THEIR OWN WORDS
“The BVI holds a special place in our hearts,” says Christian. “Sarah grew up sailing in the BVI, and when I met her family for the first time, it was on a weeklong catamaran trip in the BVI. Our wedding was the best party. Pro tip: Our local wedding planner, Ali Hall, was absolutely critical to the success of our many events. Tropical islands are unique, and local connections are key.”

MAY 18, 2024
It was truly a chance meeting when Irene Holman of Chicago and Philip “Baci” Bacigaluppi of Florida met in the Sunshine State. Irene and her sister were visiting a good friend in Lauderdale by the Sea when the couple met.
“This is our second marriage, and we decided to do things a bit differently,” says Irene. “We picked the USVI as we had both visited and had great experiences. We wanted a destination wedding and hadn’t decided where until we visited St. John and fell in love with the location — specifically, Gallows Point and Cruz Bay.”
Irene shares her thoughts on the couple’s Virgin Islands wedding vendors.
Gallows Point / Ocean 362
“Stunning views, beautiful property, and very helpful staff. We rented out the Ocean 362 restaurant so we had appetizers and drinks upstairs, then dinner and dancing downstairs.”
Island Style Weddings
“Having someone local who can coordinate with all the vendors was key. We met Tara in person once before the wedding and were impressed throughout the process.”
“St. John is a beautiful location for a wedding, and our guests are still talking about it,” says Irene. “Most have said, ‘best wedding ever.’ The local people were all incredibly helpful. My advice would be to get a wedding planner.”
