of artists, collectors and curators to the newly reimagined Miami Beach Convention Center each year. We’ve taken giant steps to transform this barrier island into a world-renowned playground and a livable community that will sustain generations to come. Adding electric vehicle charging stations and reducing electricity consumption as part of the operation of city facilities are just some of the infrastructure innovations we are implementing to preserve resources. We have also eliminated plastic bags, straws and stirrers from city property as well as from all sidewalk cafés citywide. This is part of our new #PlasticFreeMB campaign in collaboration with local partners to make our community as environmentally friendly as possible. Over 80 businesses in the city are already participating in this endeavor. Our multimodal transportation options let you bypass traffic and enjoy the ride. While in Miami, you won’t want to miss the majestic and mysterious Everglades National Park. The only subtropical preserve in North America, it’s an integral part of the largest wetlands ecosystem in the United States and the biggest nature preserve east of the Mississippi. For centuries, the Seminole Indians were the only people who thought much about the Everglades. It wasn’t until 1947 that the rest of the world caught on when Marjory Stoneman Douglas, a Miami journalist and trailblazing conservationist, published her groundbreaking book, The Everglades: River of Grass. Today the park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, encompassing more than 1.5 million acres where all sorts of aquatic animals and

ART’S AT THE HEART

Local venues and international art fairs heavily influence Miami’s eclectic art scene — and we wouldn’t have it any other way. BY JONATHAN MONJE Rich in vibrant character and attitude influenced by cultures from around the world, the city is an international melting pot. Miami’s niche art culture is no exception, as elegance blends with the urban eccentric, giving life to a plethora of spots that truly showcase Miami’s artistic scene. With such a prosperous artistic community, it’s hard to cover all the areas you’ll want to see while you’re here. Miami Beach is home to numerous world-class art museums and galleries that are worth a visit. To ease your planning, consider some of these standouts.

What inspired the launch of Vida & Estilo Restaurant Group? After years in the nightlife industry, we decided to expand our reach and venture into the culinary industry. This was a natural transition for us, given our background in hospitality. The name stands for “life and style” in Spanish, and it reflects the company’s mission. Each of our concepts perfectly combines gastronomy, mixology, entertainment and music to create a unique 360-degree ambience.

When did V&E open its first restaurant? V&E opened its first concept, Oh! Mexico, in 1996. Following this opening, we opened multiple brands such as Mercato della Pescheria on Española Way and at The Venetian Resort in Vegas; Tapas y Tintos; La Cerveceria de Barrio, which also has 30+ locations in Mexico; Barsecco; Café Americano at Caesars Palace in Vegas; and Havana 1957 on Española Way, Ocean Drive, Lincoln Road. and Pembroke Pines.

WYNWOOD WO NDERS

Dubbed by many as the street art capital of the world, Wynwood has become more than just a graffiti haven. BY DAYANA RIVERO

Wynwood, located just across the bay on the mainland, is an outdoor art lover’s dream. A run-down industrial district was transformed into an art hub known not just locally but in international art circles as well. It all started with murals, street art and graffiti encouraged by the neighborhood’s early developers. Then in 2009, the late Tony Goldman had the vision to create an open-air, pedestrianfriendly art gallery. Artists from around the world took notice of the funky Wynwood Walls and began to set up shop.

MAGIC CITY STYLE BY C H R I ST I N E B O R G ES

Miami Beach-based fashion blogger and Instagram influencer Ria Michelle weighs in on the city’s fashion sense.

And her nearly 25,000 followers are chomping at the bit for every piece of Insta inspiration. She’s even created hashtags like #LiveLikeRia to motivate others by documenting her journey. Ria has been featured in a lot of national women’s magazines, and she has often been called “the authority on Miami fashion,” with brands like H&M, Topshop and ASOS as clients. We caught up with her to find out how she’s captivating audiences — and what she thinks of Miami style.

What made you get into fashion? I love how you can shift perceptions and moods and tell a story through fashion. It’s just a fun way to express yourself.

How would you describe your style? What drew you to Miami’s fashion scene? My style is practical but fun. I can be daring but I also like to be comfortable. Miami is relaxed while also extra at the same time — and I think that suits my personality.

How would you describe the aesthetic of your blog? The aesthetic of my blog is very to the point and on trend. I come from a web design background, and it’s hard to sort of Trinidadian-born blogger and Instagram

How would you describe your photography style? We love natural and clean images that portray genuine emotion. Our style is bright and airy, and our ideal clients are family oriented and fun and value great experiences and friendships. We are more than photographers; we are friends and storytellers.

What is your philosophy? We thrive on two ideas: first, that love is the most powerful thing on this earth — no matter where it comes from or who it involves; and second, the harder you work at your craft, the better you become. We have loved each other through every step of the business and creative journey, and we’ve realized that building our business together is the most beautiful thing of all. We believe that if you can combine love and passion for business or an industry, you can strengthen your relationship in many ways.

There are three words that describe the most important thing to consider when purchasing a home: location,

location, location. This is why Miami Beach has proven over time to be an excellent investment. It’s still less expensive (per square foot) than most major cities around the world, including New York, Paris, Dubai and London. The lifestyle here — with our amazing beaches, upscale restaurants and world-class museums — draws buyers from all over the world. So depending on your budget, there are a few different neighborhoods to explore before you decide to settle down in paradise and buy a place of your own.
