Touring the Markets

As health-conscious culinary concepts continue to catch on, farmers markets around Miami offer wholesome experiences so locals and visitors can discover local and sustainable eats.

Few things are more satisfying than hand-selecting from an assortment of perfectly ripe fruits and greens, jars of locally-harvested honey and flavorful spices at an outdoor farmers market. It’s a fresh take on your standard grocery trip and a way to find quality ingredients in a setting that is built for connecting meaningfully with others. It could be a chat with the cashier weighing each item in your basket or a lively discussion about the benefits of hot yoga with other fitness gurus over a cup of premium artisanal coffee. Either way, there’s an element of human interaction that the weekly and seasonal farmers markets in Miami have down to a science.

While most markets have maintained the in-person element — with safety top of mind, of course — others have gotten creative and implemented virtual options to keep their shoppers safe and comfortable!

Fresh finds are yours to savor when you stroll along the Lincoln Road Farmers Market from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Sundays. True to its name, this market is located on Miami Beach’s most famous pedestrian mall, between Washington and Meridian, and offers a vast array of fresh produce, colorful spices, blooming flowers and made-toorder options like ceviche, hummus, empanadas and more. It’s the perfect place to stock up and get a jump start on healthy meal prep for the week.

After easing back into the workweek, be sure to check out the Adrienne Arsht Market on Mondays in Downtown Miami. From 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. you can get an afternoonto-evening pick-me-up from vendor stands overflowing with locally harvested fruits and veggies from the Urban Oasis Project and Laura’s Produce. To maintain in-person social distancing protocols, the market safely spaces out all vendors, implements hand sanitizers at each booth, requires guests to wear masks at all times and more. The market also teamed up with Urban Oasis Project to create an online store to-go option for those who’d prefer to order virtually. Now, visitors can select their fresh favorites online and pick them up at the drivethru located at the Center’s Ballet Opera House or at the Homestead market. As we continue adapting to a new normal, these options present the best of three worlds — staying safe, stocking up and supporting local farmers and businesses!
