Donna Brown President P.C. Medic Computers Inc. Donna Brown initially offered her computer diagnostic services to her community with her home based business back in 1994. The Thunder Bay community

embraced her talent and work ethic, and it wasn’t long before she was recognized as being the one who would go above and beyond all expectations in order to ensure that her client’s computer systems were up and running quickly. Not only did she work tirelessly on expanding her home based business into a full service location, she always made sure that her family came first by spending quality time with her husband, four children and her five beautiful grandchildren. She is a true role model who continually strives to make her community a better place to live in. She has been an active member of PARO for 19 years and currently serves on the PARO Board as Treasurer. Donna is the President of the Thunder Bay Business Exchange and Vice President of the Thunder Bay Women’s Network. She is also a 15-year member of both the Chamber of Commerce and the Canadian Federation of Independent Business. P.C. Medic Computers Inc. has worked diligently with Non-Profit groups that provide Internet Safety Training Sessions for the public, and has recently provided awareness training on Cyberstalking, Virus Prevention and Securing your Computer for On-Line Banking. Sherri-Ann White Owner A Beautiful New You Sherri-Ann makes every woman who walks out of her business, A Beautiful New You feel amazing and pampered. She often will help women take away stress from their busy life by giving them a massage or facial. She is also a very caring and giving individual outside of her business. SherriAnn donates her time, products and money to many local charities in Thunder Bay such as The Alzheimer Society and Faye Peterson Transition House and Camp Quality. Sherri-Ann has a big challenging spirit. Sherri was born with Cerebral Palsy. She was told at a young age she would not have the full of her body and never be able to walk without the use of a brace for the rest of her life. Today, she not only walks and moves without a brace but, she was proud to be, on her early teens, one top 25 in Modeling. This fighting spirit let her start her own business. At the beginning, she owned a little space with a small amount of clientele, but as all new businesses, she did not have enough funds to make her business grow, so she was also working cleaning apartment buildings. Her working journeys were close to 20 hours and with her cerebral palsy, her body was suffering too. Sherri-Ann has the determination and desire to change Thunder Bay for the better and help other people feel great about themselves. She is an active member of the community and is a part of the 2013 leadership Thunder Bay Class. Sherri-Ann is the owner operator of A Beautiful New You! A Beautiful New You offers a variety

of services, no matter what age or gender. This hidden treasure, located inside Blue Sky Community Healing Centre, provides pedicures, manicures, gel nails, waxing, threading, facials and relaxation massage. Whether you come in for ten minutes or an hour, you will leave feeling radiant and relaxed.

Laura Fralick Senior Financial Consultant Investor’s Group Laura Fralick is a lifelong resident of Thunder Bay and is a proud PARO woman. Laura has always been a business woman, in areas as diverse as banking, retail, accounting, legal and rehabilitation services. Her passion is supporting people in achieving their full financial potential, as a Certified Financial Planner and Master Financial Advisor. Although Laura is active with business owners and wealthy clients, she believes that all Canadians require strategic advice, improved awareness of the complexities of our financial world, and the ability to identify and satisfy goals. Laura and her clients joined Investors Group in November 2011, and she has now been in the financial services industry for 16 years. Financial education of our youth is a prime focus for Laura and she coaches youth in money concepts. Laura is a long-time volunteer with the Thunder Bay Multicultural Association and her role as a Community Connector helps newcomers to adjust and thrive in the North. The arts are very strong in our region. Laura is known as a sponsor and patron for art and music, seeing the arts as a transformative force for growth and change. Northern Economic Development is a strong interest of Laura’s, so she is well known in economic development circles and had a strong role to play as a Board member with the Lake Superior Discovery Place (waterfront development) group. Laura and her husband Philip are world travellers, bringing ideas home to Thunder Bay while supporting and celebrating entrepreneurship in this City and Region.

Sheila Fortes Owner Office Works Sheila Fortes has been a PARO member since 1996 and is one of the Charter members of Dream Builders circle. The circle was founded by 4 participants of the 1st program that PARO offered in 1996, Building a Dream. Upon completing that program, Sheila used her business plan to successfully obtain financial assistance in the form of circle loans to start Office Works;

PARO TOP 20 IN 20 - About Our Winners her business still provides bookkeeping and office support services to small and medium sized businesses. Sheila is also a Charter Member of PARO’s 1st Board of Directors, then operating as Women’s Community Loan Fund. Together, with the Executive Director, the early members of Board of Directors shared a vision to grow the organization. This goal has been embodied by all Board Members during the past 20 years! She has volunteered for several committees and served as Treasurer for many terms. Sheila also did all of PARO’s bookkeeping on a pro bono basis for several years. When the organization’s bookkeeping requirements started to take up too much of her time, she convinced the Board that the organization should hire a bookkeeper; no, not her. Sheila’s business was keeping her too busy; the person hired for that position is one of PARO’s longest standing employees! One of the important benefits of selfemployment is that women can shape and craft their businesses so that they fit with their personal circumstances. PARO’s values of cooperation, ownership, integrity, responsibility, simplification and peer support are implicit in how Sheila works. She provides a type of service and delivers it in a way that has the flexibility she needs to attend to her family and does so without jeopardizing the service to her clients. Sheila is not one to over-promise and under-deliver. She knows how much and what types of work she can handle in order to always provide excellent services to all of her clients. The nature of bookkeeping is to keep business practices in line with Revenue Canada; she has had a few clients that have benefited from some of her policies with regard to satisfying the government’s requirements. It is her firm belief that a paper trail still rules, despite the electronic world we live in now!

Cindy Maki Owner True Vision Coaching

In 2004, Cindy founded her company True Vision Energy Coaching where she offers Life Coaching, Energy Coaching, Workshops, Reiki and Intuitive Card Readings. She brings a unique body/ mind/spirit approach to her work with successful people who find themselves stuck in some area of their lives. Her clients want change but find themselves in the unusual situation of not knowing how to make that change happen. Confidential sessions with Cindy create that change in a meaningful and powerful way. Her office in Hillcrest Village (formerly Hillcrest High School) provides a serene and private space to do this sacred work. Cindy was born with super keen curiosity and a gigantic sense of wonder about life and what makes our world tick; always fascinated with why people do what they do. As a kid she loved those connect the dot puzzles and could hardly wait to finish and see what would appear. Cindy is interested in all kinds of things but hands down her truest joy in life is to encourage and support people in finding and living their true, authentic selves – herself included. Voila - the adult version of connecting the dots! When she decided her next career move was as an entrepreneur through life coaching and healing work, it was like something inside her awakened and she knew “I was made for this!” A heartcentred positive thinker, Cindy freely shares her nature with those around her. She finds it exciting to do what she loves; coaching lots and lots of people to lead authentic lives and support them in looking within themselves for inspiration and guidance; finding their passion, fulfillment and satisfaction in life. Over and over again she has been witness to clients moving past stuck places, emerging stronger and more confident with absolute certainty. Cindy notes that she is truly inspired by her clients! Cindy trained with the Coaches Training Institute as a Co-active Coach and Marcia Weider as a Certified Dream Coach® in California. She is also a Life Skills Coach, Reiki Master and Certified Light Therapy Practitioner along with training in several other healing modalities. In 2010 she was honoured to receive the Influential Women Award, Private Sector from Northern Ontario Business. In 2008 she received the Business of the Year Award and Women of

The Truth About Sports Drinks By James DiGiuseppe

The sports drink was initially developed in Florida for football players who practiced in the intense heat for hours at a time. This was then quickly adopted by marathon runners to decrease dehydration, heat strokes and muscle cramps. In the past few years sports drinks have hit an all time high in terms of popularity with the average adult and with children assuming it to be a healthy option for fluid replenishment. In the US alone the industry has hit close to 2 billion dollars per year in sales. But are these types of drinks really all that healthy for you and who should be consuming them? The three most popular brands are owned by two soda pop companies and a drug company. Massive advertisement campaigns from the producers of these

drinks claim that scientific research proves their effectiveness and necessity but the fact is creative marketing rather than true science has won the day again. Let us take a quick look at what the science really says and who is saying it. The British Medical Journal published a terrific paper in July of 2012 which addressed this topic. Below is a summary of some of the key points that should be considered: 1) All the producers of sports drinks massively sponsor major national and international sports organizations and place advertising disguised as research papers into their magazines and news letters. 2) Many of the editors and sports scientists who are on the boards of these sports organizations and several of the leading sport performance authors and speakers have financial links to one sports drink or another. 3) Sport drink companies are permitted to run adds saying that water does not

provide adequate hydration compared to their products yet in 38 years of research on the topic there has never been a comprehensive study (meta analysis) to in one hour segments or less… save your support this claim. Why would there be. money and belt line. 30 Years!

January 2015 Special Feature - Thunder Bay Business Celebrates 30 Years of Putting Northwestern Ontario Businesses in the Spotlight!

Thunder Bay Business: 30 Years Is A Long Time! Thunder Bay Business It seems just like yesterday that I was a young person just out of university with a career ahead of The question I Publisher’s Note: me. had then was what Scott A. Sumner would I like to do with my life? That seems to be something you hear quite often from young people, even today. In my case I had just completed the MBA program at York University in Toronto- the Schulich school as it is now known. The temptation was to get a job at a large financial institution in Toronto. That was what many of my class mates were doing. In my case I felt the call to return to NW Ontario where I had grown up in the small mining communities. The beauty and lifestyle of the area just seemed to appeal to me the most. So off I went almost knowing in my mind that I would probably have to create my own career path. In fact after 1 year I was on my own and have been an entrepreneur ever since! It was in December 1984 that a new publication was launched Thunder Bay Business, my second after the still publishing Thunder Bay Real Estate News

in September 1983. This started many different speciality publication ideas over the years from travel to community in the Manitouwadge area to lifestyle to car & truck to snowmobiling and golf. These were areas of interest to me and fun in which to be involved. The longest running publication that our company has owned is the Thunder Bay Business, now 30 years old! Time has flown by as it really does seem not far long ago that our first issue was off the press. Since then there has been 360 issues of Thunder Bay Business and they have been fun for me to work on. The publishing business has been a good one for me as I think it fits my personality. I was always a very inquisitive person and in media you certainly get to meet many people and learn so much. It is a very creative dynamic career and one I still enjoy after all this time. Publishing has changed technically in a dramatic way over the years. I can remember when we had dark rooms, large image setters that outputted film and paste up areas where you worked with exacto knives and created large layouts that you would bring to the printers. Now you work on a small Apple computer and do electronic layouts that are made into PDF files and uploaded to your printer’s FTP site. You can also take your information and upload it to your website in a matter of seconds for the whole world to see. It really is quite amazing and the power of information lives in all forms of the media industry. (continued on page 7)

Six Agencies Come Together to Create the Community Behavioral Therapy (DBT) Based Skills Group by Scott A. Sumner -

The new partnership for Thunder Bay is with six agencies that came together to create the Community Behavioral Therapy (DBT) Based Skills Group. “ This group is for anybody over the age of 18 that is experiencing issues such as anxiety or stress in their lives and need help managing them. It is ok to have these stressors- it is how we manage them with other like minded people and facilitators. We do it in a fun way with interactive skills in groups and role plays in helping members work through their issues,” said Theresa Graham, Associate Director of the Children’s Centre of Thunder Bay. “ This community group will be awesome to have available for people and the six

organizations will be able to offer this as an ongoing service.” “The research tells us that it works and is about building skills. We want to increase capacity in our groups to be able to provide this and create accessibility. It provides an integration to be able to provide better services and best match where the services are available,” said Aimee Jaun, Manager of Addiction Services. “ We are seeing increasing complex individuals in the community so DBT is one of the best treatments for complex needs. We want to provide a spectrum of services.”

To Tell The Truth By Brian Babcock

©2014-2015 Brian Babcock Most people know what it means to tell the truth. Therefore, “A reasonable commercial person would expect, at least, that the other party to a contract would not be dishonest about his or her performance.” The Supreme Court of Canada says this in a recent decision which recognizes a duty to behave honestly in the performance of a contract. This newly formulated duty is an extension of a duty of good faith which has been developing in specific situations in Canadian law for decades, but which has not been welldefined as a general concept. The Court still declined to fully draw boundaries around the broad concept of “good faith”. Instead, they expressed the new duty of honest performance as a defined sub-set of the still evolving duty of good faith. The duty of good faith is broader, and means different things in different context. For

example, as the quote notes, a “fiduciary” or a person in a position of trust, owes a duty to protect the interests of the vulnerable person, even if that means in some cases, that the fiduciary suffers a loss. The new duty of honest performance is narrower. The Court summarizes their decision as follows: (1) There is a general organizing principle of good faith that underlies many facets of contract law. (2) In general, the particular implications of the broad principle for particular cases are determined by resorting to the body of doctrine that has developed which gives effect to aspects of that principle in particular types of situations and relationships. (3) It is appropriate to recognize a new common law duty that applies to all contracts as a manifestation of the general organizing principle of good faith: a duty of honest performance, which requires the parties to be honest with each other in relation to the performance of their contractual obligations. This means simply that parties must not lie or otherwise knowingly mislead each

other about matters directly linked to the performance of the contract. This does not impose a duty of loyalty or of disclosure or require a party to forego advantages flowing from the contract; it is a simple requirement not to lie or mislead the other party about one’s contractual performance. Don’t lie. Pretty simple. Or, as the Supreme Court says: “The duty is also clear and easy to apply.” This new duty makes Canadian law similar to the law in Quebec and most of the United States, so people and businesses doing business in other jurisdictions should find more consistency and predictability in the rules being applied to their dealings. In fact, most of the major countries with legal systems based on British law have similar rules. Canada is just playing catch up. The particular case before the Supreme Court dealt with a business agreement, and does not explicitly say whether or not it applies to consumer contracts or personal dealings. Most consumer contracts are subject to consume protection legislation. In Thunder Bay, that means Ontario’s Consumer Protection Act. That Act contains provisions about good faith, or false and deceptive practices, but interestingly, the word “honest” or “honesty” is not found in the Act.

For private personal dealings, the supreme Court has not told Charlie Brown whether he can sue Lucy for pulling the football away AGAIN, but this quote might give Charlie a clue: “Because the duty of honesty in contractual performance is a general doctrine of contract law that applies to all contracts, like unconscionability, the parties are not free to exclude it.” Somehow, though, I fear that poor Charlie Brown will still not have a clue. You might wonder why the issue of contracting out came up. In the contract in front of the Court, there was a standard “entire agreement” clause, which said that there are no implied duties. The Court has said that THIS implied duty of honest performance exists in every contract. They did leave the door ajar for a contract to EXPRESSLY exclude the duty, though they noted: “It will surely be rare that parties would wish to agree that they may be dishonest with each other in performing their contractual obligations.” Although the new duty is clear, exactly how it will affect remedies available on specific facts is going to be an interesting topic for future cases.

Thunder Bay Community Foundation Grant Over $321,000 by Scott A. Sumner The Thunder Bay Community Foundation recently hosted a special evening at Badanai Motors in Thunder Bay where over 30 organizations received much needed funds for their ongoing operations. The foundation is 43 years old and was started in 1971 by a then anonymous donation of $100,000 by a woman named

Pru Morton. Today their total funds are $9.1 million. “We give out about 3.5 % of our income each year so we are going to give out over $400,000. Most of themoney we receive is endowed which means we give out the income but retain the principal in perpetuity,” said Bonnie Moore, Executive Director of the Thunder Bay Community Foundation.

“ We have a board of 9 people and twice a year we give away money. In the spring it is for scholarships and bursaries and this spring we gave out $8000.00. Now in December we are giving $321,000 for charities in the community that have applied to us. Our committee reviews the applications. We had 30 organizations get finds this evening from ranging from $2500 to $25,000. We had $750,000 worth of

applications alone this year so we have to raise more money!” Some of our funds are given out by the donars to charities of their choice. The rest are chosen through the committee Thunder Bay Community Foundation. You can find out more about the organization at www. TBCF.org or call 475-7279.

SHOP LOCAL-

SHOP THUNDER BAY!

SHOP LOCAL....REALLY! By Sherry Aalto

At little story for Shop Local/remember when. “O.K!….O.K.!... That’s perfect! Hold it right there!” Mom shouted out to Dad, as he positioned that wonderful, aromatic, Christmas tree, into the corner of our living room by the front window. Mom loved the tree there! She would always say, “Well here…everyone passing by could enjoy the beauty of the colourful, sparkling lights!” and boy did our Mom like to put lots of lights on our tree. It is no secret that in our neighbourhood at least, one could easily mistake our house for a landing beacon of the airport, which at Christmas Time, is not so wisely located, as it is just a few short kilometers away! In our family, there is myself, Elizabeth, I just turned six…my younger brother Bejamin, he is five and then there is our little sister, Sarah, who is three. We all ran from our bedrooms, into the living room when we heard the harkening of our mother’s voice in excitement, because putting

up the Christmas Tree, marks the official beginning of Christmas in all its celebration in our house and our family traditions. Sarah, who did not yet fully understand all the to do’s about Christmas, blurted out to Mom, “Hey!! You always make me wipe my feet when I come in from outside, so how come you’re putting a tree in the living room?!” We all laughed! Sarah, standing there with her little blankie all bundled up in her tiny, little arms, would get the idea later. She would come to realize that this meant that Santa would leave presents for her under the tree and that we will have a great feast together to celebrate the birth of someone very special that the whole world knows about! That evening after supper Dad brought down the slightly tattered cardboard boxes of Christmas decorations from the attic and placed them carefully on the living room floor in the center of the room. The boxes themselves displayed interesting character that shouted out memories from Christmases past. The boxes always had that fresh attic smell to them and were cold to the touch…an instant reminder of yesteryear. I myself, Benjamin and Sarah sat patiently on the sofa, awaiting our further instruction from our mother, to take part in the decorating of the tall, bushy, hand selected tree that we got from out local nursery…but first we had to wait, for all those lights to go on. The lights, you know, had to be positioned just ever so perfectly on the tree! It seemed like it took FOREVER for Mom to get them just right! But soon enough it was time to open the boxes and gently lift each ornament out and carefully pass them one at a time, to Mom and she placed each one in its own special spot on the tree. Decorating the tree was not only a family tradition but now, it had become a personal art form for Mom! We children always got to stay up later than usual, I think it was like nine o’clock or so! We would drink hot chocolate and of course, listen to all the favourite Christmas songs like Bing Crosy’s White Christmas and Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer! It was splendid! As each ornament was presented to Mom, she would tell a story of where she bought it and the special memory that it held. I think we enjoyed that most about decorating the

tree… and she would say…“And this one we bought from Edwards Hardware Store, on Elgin Street…or at least it used to be there. But it’s closed down now! The day we got this one, was the day that Daddy and I found out that we were going to be having you Elizabeth! I’ll place it here!” Sarah, who was anxious to have her turn, carefully placed her special blankie on the sofa and picked out a cute little angel with golden wings and a halo. She said, as she passed the angel to Mom, “I know! I know! You got this one when you found out I was coming here to live! Right Mom?!” A certain chuckle was heard from the next room by Dad! Mom explained… “Well yes honey…that is a very good guess!”…thinking to herself… ‘how did she know that??’ “And this one comes from Lillie’s Gifts and Crafts Store, over on Queen Street. What a beautiful little store it was!” “What do you mean WAS?” asked Elizabeth! “Well!” said Mom. “Some big box store opened up around the corner from Lillie’s and put her out of business and she never opened her doors again!” “Gee!” said Elizabeth. “That’s awful! What happened to all the pretty things in the store?” “I don’t know!” said Mom. “All I know is that we can’t find special things like this anymore here in town!” I could see the expression change on Mom’s face from happy and excited to one of sadness and concern. It was almost like she went somewhere else for a moment. Then she reposed herself back into the spirit of decorating the tree with the family! As it came time for Benjamin to present his selected ornament to Mom, he leaned over towards her and said in a very soft and whispering voice, “Please don’t put mine beside any girlie stuff! Thanks Mom!” I couldn’t help but overhear and I turned away to not embarrass him, although I did snicker a little under my breath! The stories went on, during the entire decorating of the tree and what stories they were! I will be happy to tell my children some day of these wonderful things we hold in our memories and the magic that they can bring into one’s heart! Alas! The tree was completely decorated

and ready for the exciting moment of plugging in the Christmas lights! We all set our cups of now cold, hot chocolate down and gathered in front of the tree while Dad did the countdown …holding the plug in one hand and waving the count with the other! “Ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two,...and….and …and”, he always liked to hold us in suspense… “and ONE!!!” Vuoi la!!! The tree light up like the 1st of July! And we all clapped our hands and hugged each other with the hopes of another good Christmas for one and for all! That was many years ago, but it still brings a smile to my face to listen to my Mom and Dad share their memories of simpler times. Times when we would walk down the streets of our town that were all so wonderfully decorated in the spirit of Christmas…times when we would say hello to our neighbours and friends that we met on the sidewalks while out doing our Christmas shopping…times when we would stop in all the different shops and marvel at all the magic that filled our senses…times when we would chat with the owners of the local shops and they knew us by name, because we frequented their shops and they understood the value of our patronage. Years? ... yes… they pass like grains of sand through an hour glass but one thing that can be forever sustainable is…that feeling one gets when displaying a sense of support for community by shopping local! A sense of ‘that’s where we build our lives’. A sense of ‘this is where we work, shop, set down roots and raise our families! Life is what we make of it and what we make of it depends on what we put into it and where! What we put into community that makes where we live… home! It is the personal choice we can make every day to participate and contribute, that makes our community thrive! We can enjoy a sense of belonging and devotion for now and generations to come! So…there you have it…Shopping local definitely has a positive effect on the community and produces the feeling of ‘justifiable pride and accomplishment by those who support shop local. Thank you for shopping local Thunder Bay! You’re the best! And in 2015, everyone is invited to create their own experiences and memories by shopping local throughout the year! Young Professionals Network of Ontario (YPNO) Launches in Toronto Ontario’s under 40’s connect and want a voice in the province’s future. Toronto, November 26, 2014 - Dozens of under forties from all corners of the province announced the launch of Young Professionals Network of Ontario (YPNO) today. YPNO is a central hub to support young people to do business, network, advocate, have a voice at provincial and national tables, and build economic development opportunities. Says Thunder Bay-based CoFounder, Michael Nitz; “There has been a significant lack of opportunities for young professionals across the province to meet like-minded peers and have a voice on provincial issues. YPNO is a volunteer-based organization that will serve as an essential provincial network to connect, engage, inspire and advocate for professionals under 40 years.” YPNO represents over 30 Young Professionals Networks with thousands of members dispersed across large cities like Toronto, as well as in small northern communities like Kenora. Members also come from all sectors and walks of life including private business, public entities, trades, not-for profit agencies, and Aboriginal organizations. As part of the organization’s launch, 6 core pillars were unveiled: • Community Engagement • Social • Business & Economy • Environment • Personal & Professional Development • Provincial Connectivity An advocacy campaign called; Meet Us, Hear Us was also announced to Parliament at Queen’s Park. Says Co-founder Nathan Lawrence, “Our advocacy goal is to inform politicians and decision-makers about the hot issues

concerning young people today. The current provincial deficit, lack of incentives to attract and retain young people, infrastructure planning and jobs are just a few of the top concerns. We hope political or socio-economic influencers leverage YPNO as a unique opportunity to engage future leaders on key issues.” To join YPNO, get involved or start a local Young Professionals Network in your community, visit

Serving Up Local Food In Thunder Bay & Area Ontario Investing In Innovative Local Food Projects Ontario is supporting LA Quality Foods in Thunder Bay and the region provide the region with a “closest-first” approach with local products which match the selection, service, quality and price of those available in southern Ontario The province is providing $108,025 through the Local Food Fund to help LA Quality Foods continue to meet the challenges of providing local product by developing a value-added brand for local product and creating a retail storefront to support the sale of beef from the region for the region. Nishnawbe Aski Nation is receiving provincial funding in the amount of $190,973 towards redesigning NAN’s food distribution system. The fund is part of the government’s economic plan for Ontario. The four part plan is building Ontario up by investing in people’s talents and skills, building new public infrastructure like roads and transit, creating a dynamic, supportive environment where business thrives, and building a secure savings plan so everyone can afford to retire. QUOTE “It is great to see LA Quality Foods increasing awareness of and demand for

food that is grown, harvested and made right here in our community. By supporting Ontario’s agri-food sector we are helping support farmers, strengthen rural communities and grow our economy.” — Michael Gravelle, MPP Thunder Bay – Superior North “I’m pleased that our government is able to support these two projects through the Local Food Fund. I’d like to thank everyone involved for their efforts as we work together to support local farmers, families and the economy.” — Bill Mauro, MPP Thunder Bay – Atikokan “Supporting local food is pivotal to the success of our agri-food industry. When we invest in local food projects we not only support innovation and grow our economy, we strengthen the connection between farmers and consumers.” — Jeff Leal, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs QUICK FACTS • Ontario’s agri-food sector contributes over $34 billion to the province’s economy and supports more than 760,000 jobs. • Since 2003, the province has invested approximately $140 million to help support sales of Ontario foods. • In 2013, Ontario’s total agri-food exports exceeded $11 billion - a more than 9 per cent increase from 2012.
