OUR COURSES

Be part of a vibrant learning community engaging in lectures, seminars, workshops and experiential study. You’ll help to shape your learning by choosing modules, projects and a dissertation topic to take you exactly where you want to be in your career.

Northumbria Pathways

All of our pathway courses are taught directly on our campuses Our courses help international students improve their English language and academic skills to give you the confidence to start your degree .

Extended Degrees

These are four or five year study routes for an undergraduate degree and are designed for students who have not achieved the entry requirements for their chosen course . Following successful completion of the foundation

year within the extended degree, you will automatically progress onto the first year of your degree .

Undergraduate Degrees

Undergraduate degrees include BA (Hons), BEng (Hons), BSc (Hons) and LLB qualifications We offer placements or study abroad options on the majority of our undergraduate courses .

Integrated Master’s

These courses offer a fully fundable undergraduate degree with the opportunity to undertake a year of study at master’s level .

Higher and Degree Apprenticeships

These specialist courses are co-designed with employers to provide the skills that industries are looking for . Students are employed and divide their time between the workplace and study .

Postgraduate Taught Degrees

Postgraduate degrees include MA and MSc qualifications and usually last one year .

We also offer a two-year Advanced Practice option, where students may have the opportunity to undertake a 12-15 week internship, study abroad or research study project in your second year .

PG Cert and PG Dip awards are qualifications you can achieve by studying fewer modules at master’s level .

MRes degrees also have a taught component, but the majority of your time will be spent undertaking independent research .

Postgraduate Research

We offer a range of PhD/MPhil programmes, research projects and studentships throughout the year which provide an opportunity to become an expert in a field you are passionate about, opening doors to prestigious careers in academia, or to research positions across industry and public service .

Destination Northumbria, our supported entry scheme, offers valuable resources, guidance and a strong support network to help develop the skills and knowledge to prepare for undergraduate study.

In addition to the information and support provided through the scheme, successful completion enables eligible students to earn Destination Northumbria points, equivalent to UCAS tariff points, when applying to Northumbria University .

We also understand that your personal social or socio-economic circumstances can impact your education, experience and qualifications We review all aspects of an applicant’s profile and make an appropriate offer based on this information, with students who are eligible for a contextual offer receiving a reduced UCAS tariff point offer which is less than our standard entry criteria .

OUR CAMPUSES

City Campus

Our City Campus is in the heart of Newcastle city centre, close to cafés, shops and cultural centres, making it the perfect place to make the most of your time at university . We have invested in Student Central and City Campus Librarycreating a secure and supportive 24/7 environment to enhance your studies, a Computer and Information Sciences Building, new

Architecture Studios in Sutherland Building, a 24/7 computer hub in Northumberland Building and the refurbishment of the University Gallery .

City Campus is also home to Sport Central, with a state-ofthe-art gym, 25m swimming pool, sauna and steam room, and Northumbria Students’ Union which boasts

entertainment venues, bars, student workspaces and a recently refurbished coffee shop Work is underway to develop Northumbria’s North East Space Skills and Technology Centre (NESST) – a £50m space skills, research and development centre set to transform the UK space industry, expected to open on campus in 2026 . Plans are also currently underway to develop a new Centre for Health and Social Equity - a new state of the art facility to deliver training and workforce development for the healthcare, social work and education sectors, due to open on the University’s City Campus in 2028 .

Coach Lane Campus

Coach Lane Campus is currently home to our healthcare and education courses . Located just three miles from the city centre, Coach Lane is an extensive site with its own Students’ Union, Library and IT suites .

Our state-of-the-art Clinical Skills Centre is a purpose-built facility that allows our students

to develop practical skills and gain valuable experience of real hospital situations through a simulated environment .

Coach Lane can be easily reached from City Campus by a free bus service seven days a week

London

Located in the heart of the city, our London Campus is situated just minutes away from Liverpool Street station . The campus is in a well-known student hub, around the corner from several other university campuses . Students benefit from studying in a location where the financial district meets the heart of London’s digital and technology sector .

We offer full-time and part-time courses in Business, Management, Computing, Cyber, Project Management and Technology .

YOUR NEW HOME

Living in halls is a once in a lifetime experience. From meeting new people, to unwinding in your room. Where you live forms a large part of your student life.

We offer a wide range of options when choosing your accommodation including en-suite rooms and studios . You can book your place as soon as you make Northumbria your firm choice, you can even pick your exact room from the building floorplans, giving you the opportunity to shape your experience from start to finish .

All of our residences are within walking distance of the campus and are easily accessed through local transport links .

UP YOUR GAME

Northumbria Sport is the perfect place to get fit and have fun. Whether you want to join our state-of-the-art gym, join a sport club, or you just want to be active, you’ll be welcomed with open arms. We have over 35 different sports across our Sport Clubs, Intramural Leagues and Just PLAY (a free sporting programme), ensuring students can access a wide range of opportunities to get involved in sport while studying at Northumbria. Whether it’s to try a new fun sport, meet new people, or represent the University in a sport you already love, we have something for everyone.

We have over 80 teams representing Northumbria in BUCS (British Universities & Colleges Sport) leagues, where we are ranked within the Top 25 and many of our teams are ranked in the Top 10 .

Student leadership is at the heart of what we do, we have hundreds of volunteer and paid internship opportunities available within areas such

as sports coaching, club committees, marketing and strength and conditioning, plus positions with our community partners .

For students wishing to pursue their sporting talent whilst studying, we offer a range of Sport Scholarships and Support Services aimed at supporting student athletes to have a dual career .

BE SOCIAL

At Northumbria University, the Students’ Union (NSU) is the hub of campus life, featuring excellent facilities such as bars, gig venues, coffee shops, workspaces, relaxation areas, and meeting rooms.

NSU is run by the SABB Team, six Northumbria students chosen in the Lead Northumbria student elections to represent you full-time in all aspects of your university experience . You can access support via NSU’s free, independent and confidential advice service covering academic and housing advice, complaints, disciplinaries, Personal Extenuating Circumstances (PECs) and more .

NSU has over 100 societies to join, from Surf and Snow Sports, to Nursing and the Dance Society, so you’re sure to meet your people here .

Unwind with friends at Habita, your new student hangout featuring great value food and drinks, pool tables, big screen football, karaoke, and quiz nights .

Get your caffeine fix at Greenhouse Coffee, featuring beans from Pumphreys Coffee, a local institution since 1750 .

Live music more your thing?

NSU regularly host gigs –previous acts have included Kate Nash, Dragonforce and Thundercat .

STUDY ABROAD

At Northumbria, we’re proud of our global community. Bringing together a wide range of people from diverse backgrounds and cultures makes incredible things happen.

We offer exciting opportunities for students to study and visit countries all over the world, including Colombia, Fiji, Ecuador and Tanzania for short-term opportunities, and the USA, France, Germany, Austria, South Korea and Japan for semester-long and yearlong study abroad stays

Over 200 students choose to study abroad each year to help enhance their CV, expand their academic networks, and gain invaluable experience studying modules which will help them advance within their chosen industry .

For some students, the opportunity to study their subject in a different academic environment is key, and for others the opportunity to live in another culture and interact with students of different nationalities is the real attraction .

Some of our postgraduate programmes offer the chance to study abroad for a semester . We have recently developed the International Short Programme, allowing postgraduate students the opportunity to volunteer or work abroad during the summer break

SUPPORT FOR YOU

Students and their wellbeing are at the forefront of everything we do here at Northumbria.

As well as the academic support you’ll receive from tutors, our dedicated and professional services provide advice and support at every stage of your student journey From money matters and plans for the future, to keeping your studies on track, visas and international issues, your health and wellbeing and much more, our support teams are there every step of the way . You will even be able to access our Student Support teams before you’re enrolled in the University .

Quantity Surveying

We have dedicated teams providing tailored support for under-represented student groups such as care leavers, while our Mental Health and Wellbeing Team provides support for those with personal, emotional or mental health issues .

Our Ask4Help service is the first point of contact for all student support enquiries . Students can contact the team in person, by phone or via their Student Portal to raise queries and seek support or guidance on a range of topics

MONEY MATTERS

Higher Education is an important investment in your future. At Northumbria we offer a range of support packages to ease the financial commitment of studying at university, allowing you to focus more on your studies.

Tuition Fees and Maintenance Loan

All of our tuition fees can be found on our website . Undergraduate home students are eligible to apply for a Student Finance Maintenance Loan Postgraduate students can find information on Master’s Loans on the UK government website .

Support Packages

We offer a range of scholarships at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, as well as an alumni discount of 20% for former students returning to study a postgraduate course . For further information on what is available and how to apply please visit the website .

Managing Your Money

Learning to manage your money whilst studying is an integral part of university life . Our Student Life and Wellbeing team can advise on planning your budget and offer practical tips for managing your money The University has also partnered with Blackbullion to offer all Northumbria University students free access to this interactive financial wellbeing platform Graduate Futures, our careers and employment service, can also support you in finding part-time work to supplement your income .

Jim Rowan, Hon DSc President & CEO, Volvo Cars

Jim is President and CEO of Volvo Cars . He was previously the CEO of Dyson and oversaw the launch of an unparalleled suite of new Dyson innovations . Before joining Dyson, Jim was the Chief Operating Officer for BlackBerry and held senior positions in contract manufacturing . He is a Business with Supply Chain Management & Logistics (2014) graduate .

Nicola Elliott, Founder, Neom Wellbeing

Nicola studied History of Modern Art, Design & Film at Northumbria University (1999) and started her career in journalism, spending 12 years editing magazines including Glamour, InStyle and Marie Claire . She then went on to Co-Found her own brand, Neom Wellbeing London, in 2005
