Foster Wales Flintshire rejoices Foster Care fortnight

During the month of May, foster families across Flintshire came together to celebrate Foster Care Fortnight. This year, Foster Wales celebrated the difference that foster carers had made to children’s lives with the UK’s biggest awareness raising campaign #fosteringcommunities, delivered by leading fostering charity, The Fostering Network. For two weeks, Foster Wales Flintshire praised the many ways people in the fostering community had supported each other during and post the Covid-19 pandemic. There is a national crisis for more dedicated foster carers, not only in Flintshire but across the country. One foster carer who decided to open up her heart and home to care is Caz, 40 from Mancot. ‘’For the past couple of years we have discussed the possibility of us fostering as a family,” she explained. “It was only during the pandemic that we all sat down together to have an in depth conversation as a family about moving forward with the idea. With more time at home we decided to make enquires with our local authority. We completed the skills to foster training online and in May 2021 we were officially approved. We have had over a

dozen foster children so far!” Foster Wales wants to encourage more people to become foster carers in Flintshire so that children can stay local and maintain their sense of identity during a really difficult time. To
