August is the last month that we can enjoy these long summer evenings, so make the most of them by relaxing in the garden after dinner with one of these fabulous local liqueurs…
Cariad Gin Range: Many of Cariad’s fabulous flavours make the perfect liqueur
When the sun has gone down there is no better feeling than chilling out with a glass of something special in your hand. But if, like many people, you are stuck in that same after-dinner drink rut look no further, as North Wales has some fabulous local alternatives.
For example, have you tried Merlyn Cream Liqueur?! It’s produced by Penderyn Distillery and named after the King Arthur Pendragon’s legendary Welsh wizard. It is a magical blend of Penderyn’s new make spirit and the finest dairy cream, for a wonderfully smooth, mellow and
irresistible flavour.
Merlyn Cream Liqueur has a rich and warming creamy texture of fudge toffee, which gradually gives way to vanilla, hints of banana and exotic fruits, all lingering gently in the background.
It won the Best Liqueur Award at the World Liqueur Awards in 2018 and has also made an appearance on TV with celebrity Chef James Martin on ITV’s Highlands to Islands show, where he made Churros using Merlyn Cream Liqueur.

Meanwhile Cariad Distillery focuses on gin, but many of its fabulous flavours make the perfect liqueur. Marmalade and Bayleaf Gin is a
delicately sweet orange gin with softly fragrant bay leaves which bring out the absolute best of the fresh citrus fruit. The sweet tart taste of this wonderful fruit paired with the fragrant aroma and complex flavour of the
dried bay leaf is like nothing else.
Lemon and Lime Gin is a well-balanced smooth citrus gin with light herbal characteristics. Predominantly juniper in flavour with a zesty hint of
lemon and lime.
The bold and tangy Blackcurrant Gin with a hint of spice makes a great summer tipple due to its distinct bitter sweet taste, Plum Crumble Gin offers comforting ripened plums and a hint of soothing vanilla, while in the Welsh Wildflower Honey and Lemon Gin the piney juniper is
