ON SITE If you live in or near the Twin Cities and enjoy dynamic discussion, strong peer support and stretching your thinking by interacting with others, the one-night-a-week, on-site courses may work best for you. You’ll learn in person from expert professors and work on collaborative projects with students from your cohort. ONLINE Online courses may be taken from anywhere in the world. Our online programs provide the opportunity to take courses without disrupting your career or other scheduled activities. Master of Organizational Leadership The Master of Organizational Leadership (MOL) offers a dynamic course of study that explores a variety of leadership venues including businesses, churches, nonprofit organizations and government. At Northwestern you’ll find a learning environment where your life experience and perspectives are valued. Master of Arts in Theological Studies OUTCOMES Through the MATS program, you will: • Develop biblical principles for spiritual formation and discipleship • Learn advanced principles of biblical interpretation • Study the socio-historical worlds that gave rise to the Old and New Testaments • Survey the history of Christianity • Construct a personal theology of leadership IS THE MATS FOR YOU? The MATS is suitable for Christians who would like to increase their biblical knowledge and apply a Christian worldview to their professions. The degree provides a foundation for educational advancement and professional development for lay ministers, vocational ministers and teachers.
As both an academic and professional degree, the Master of Arts in Theological Studies (MATS) provides biblical and theological training to equip you for effective ministry in the church, workplace, parachurch organizations or academic settings. After the foundational core courses, you will select one of these areas of concentrated study: BIBLE EXPOSITION The Bible exposition concentration is for individuals who desire to study the Word of God at a deeper level, presenting an expository study of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. BIBLICAL STUDIES The biblical studies concentration is designed for students who plan to use the biblical languages (Hebrew and Greek) in their ministries. THEOLOGY The theology concentration includes study of systematic theology, apologetics and ethics. If you’re considering further study toward your M.Div. or at the doctorate level, the theology concentration provides an excellent foundation.

Master of Divinity The Master of Divinity (M.Div.) is a comprehensive, pre-doctoral degree that combines theology and Christian ministry with a selected concentration in either Bible exposition or biblical studies. The program builds upon Northwestern’s history and commitment to biblically based, evangelical theology. The M.Div. serves as excellent preparation for pastoral or chaplaincy positions, as well as pursuit of advanced degrees.
Course of Study The Master of Divinity curriculum is integrated with Northwestern’s Master of Arts in Theological Studies (MATS), described on page 8. The M.Div. program includes the MATS core curriculum and theology concentration (36 credits), plus a chosen concentration in either Bible exposition or biblical studies (20 credits) and a series of ministerial courses (20 credits). The M.Div. is granted upon completion of 76 credits, and you can earn your degree in approximately 44–48 months. Students who elect to do so may obtain both the MATS and M.Div. degrees for the complete course of study. HIGHLIGHTS M.Div. students complete 36 courses, which vary depending on selected concentration. In addition to the MATS courses, key courses for the Northwestern College M.Div. include:

Master of Arts in Human Services OUTCOMES Through the MAHS program, you will complete coursework that focuses on the foundations of: • Human services • Human development • Worldview and ethics • Legal issues • Diversity issues • Interviewing skills • Research methodology/ program evaluation • Program development IS THE MAHS FOR YOU? The MAHS degree may be considered by those who work or want to pursue work in private or public social services settings providing non-therapeutic assistance to people in need. It is appropriate for people who may apply psychological insights in their work activities or settings, such as pastors, human resource directors, teachers, coaches, nurses, public health workers, law enforcement officers, managers, or student affairs personnel.

The Master of Arts in Human Services (MAHS) is an applied non-licensure degree program designed to help you develop the knowledge and skills necessary for assessing and meeting the needs of people. You will learn to look at individual and systemic needs and solutions. The MAHS will also help you prepare for further graduate study in human or social sciences programs. You will develop an understanding of how to assist people experiencing complex, problematic situations, how faith and human services intersect, how research can facilitate understanding people and their needs, and how to design and evaluate human services programs. The program offers one concentration in family studies.
