Consider volunteering at a hospital or clinic to learn the realities of life as a medical professional and interact with patients.
Gain as much research experience as possible. Approach professors with interest to help with their research as a way to develop experience.
Hiring Cycle If you plan to apply to a hospital or university sponsored internship program deadlines will most likely be in JanuaryMarch. Because there are so few of these opportunities, they are very competitive- please apply early. Other internships or research experiences may be available throughout the year, but it is always smart to stay on top of the deadlines. Consider asking for letters of recommendation from past employers and faculty months before due dates.
Market Your Skills
Many internships in the healthcare field are unpaid, however, there are often grants or scholarships associated with organizations for you to apply to.
