HIGH STEEL BRIDGE
Soaring 420' above the Skokomish River, the High Steel Bridge (1929), is the highest steel truss arch bridge in WA. Follow Skokomish Valley Rd 11 miles from Hwy 101 to reach the bridge.

FISH & SHELLFISH
From open water trolling on the sound to throwing dry flies on small lowland lakes, there are plenty of fishing opportunities in the area. Trout in the spring, shrimp & crab in the summer and saltwter coho in the fall and winter – every season is fishing season in and around Hood Canal. VANCE CREEK RAILRIDERS Pedal the rails on the former Simpson Logging rail line for a 12-mile round trip work out! As you pedal the multi-seat "railrider" along the track you will have the opportunity to see wildlife, old growth and new forests as well as diverse meadows teeming with wild flowers, moss, and ferns. You will pedal down across the winding Goldsborough Creek and return back up the gradual grade. This gentle, but vigorous ride is suitable for all ages. If you tire on the adventure there is a motorized railrider to give you a little extra push up the hills The rail head is at 421 West Hanks Lake Road, nine miles west of Hwy 101 on the Shelton/Matlock Rd. Don't be alarmed when you leave the main road for a short hop on a gravel logging road. The road is well-maintained. Tickets are $24 for adults (and children over 12), $12 for kids under 12 years old. Open Seasonally. HIKING & BACKCOUNTRY CAMPING Clamber up the rugged trails, tiptoe through the quiet old growth forest, or careen through the pristine meadows of Olympic National Forest & National Park. Shoulder your pack and experience the sights and sounds of the vast wilderness home to some of the most beautiful flora & fauna in the world. Ablaze with wildflowers in the spring, cool hidden swimming holes in the summer, a chance to see spawning salmon in the fall, and snow capped peaks in the winter, there is never an inopportune time to hike Hood Canal.
STAIRCASE RAPIDS LOOP TRAIL
A family friendly trail through large second growth beside the rapids of the North Fork Skokomish River. Hike includes several swimming holes. A marked trail spur leads to a massive, fallen old-growth cedar. Olympic National Park entrance fee required. Directions: At Hoodsport, take SR 119 to Forest Road 24. Follow signs to Staircase, turn left and continue with Lake Cushman on your left to Park Entrance. Trailhead across main bridge from ranger station.
LOWER LENA LAKE TRAIL
Well maintained trail leads to a small lake with campsites. Length: 3 miles | Difficulty: Moderate climb| Directions: From US -101 at Hamma Hamma Recreation Area, take Forest Road 25 to junction; go right one mile to trailhead. NW forest pass required to park.
CAMPSITES Hood Canal’s numerous camping opportunities are perfeect for reconnecting with family and friends. Each campground has it’s own universe, with vista, flora, fauna, and activities.There’s no better way to strengthen a relationship than to experience nature without being tethered to a device.
