College of Adult and Professional Studies

WE HELPED THIS CARPENTER BUILD A BETTER CAREER Joshua Meeks was a full-time carpenter with an overtime life. He wasn’t sure how he’d ever have time to get his bachelor’s degree in business. Since enrolling and attending class just one night each week, Joshua was promoted four times. Most recently, he has started a brand-new career and is a successful real estate agent who is selling far above the industry average. “My NU education totally prepared me to enter a new career and run my real estate business—marketing, finance, accounting, law, HR, ethics—I was ready to go!”

WHAT OUR STUDENTS ARE SAYING Delia Arce, B.A. Business Management “I started at NU in January of 2011 with the goal of getting my bachelor’s degree to work for a non-profit mentoring Latino youth. Things didn’t go according to plan. I found out I was pregnant with my first child, was not married, and was ready to give up on everything. After sharing my news with my cohort and teachers, they were encouraging and extended so much grace. They didn’t let me give up on my education or myself. It was evident that this was much more than just a school. My daughter was born in late April of 2012. In July of 2013, I started work at a faith-based non-profit that served Latino students. It was the perfect fit. I went on to be the Executive Director of this organization for the next two years. I now work as the Diversity Manager for Girl Scouts of Western Washington.” Roger Johnson, B.A. Education “Northwest University’s Adult Evening Program allowed me to finally achieve my dream: earn a college degree in the field in which I am now employed: teaching. Northwest University has done more than open the doors to my profession; by being in a Christ-centered atmosphere, I was energized and compelled to renew my relationship with God. Thanks to my wonderful experience at Northwest, I am on the road to fulfilling my professional goals, as well as my spiritual needs.”

Michael W. Weiss, B.A. Psychology, CDP “At 57, I was the National Retail Director for the Women’s Shoe Division at Nordstrom. Life drastically changed for me in 2011 during an annual National Executive Meeting in which I clearly heard God speak that I was to fulfill His plan for me to become a drug and alcohol counselor. I summoned the executive staff together and communicated that I was moving on from the company. Shortly thereafter, I began to pursue a psychology degree at Northwest University. In 2014, I graduated with honors, and today I am a fully licensed Chemical Dependency Professional who is formally trained in Client Centered/ Motivational Addiction Therapy.” Ryan Brotherton, B.A. Ministry “At 30 years old, I had some great life experiences, but hadn’t completed my bachelor’s degree. I felt called to plant a church, but really needed a relevant degree to accomplish this calling. I couldn’t imagine how that would work for me: I was running a business, working in ministry part time, and my wife and I had twin three-year-old daughters at home. Then I discovered NU’s Adult Evening Program. Now, four years later, I have graduated, planted a church, and am pastoring an Anglican church full time.”
