ONLINE

NU offers select master’s programs in an online format. Online programs are structured to allow students to complete coursework at a pace that fits best with their schedules.

ON-CAMPUS

Many of NU’s master’s programs are offered on-campus. Our on-campus programs allow you to learn in an inspiring environment alongside your peers through engaging, in-person class sessions.

HYFLEX

NU’s HyFlex programs are available for select on-campus master’s programs. The HyFlex option allows students to choose whether they will attend the set class sessions in-person, at our Kirkland campus, or remotely via video.

Master of EDUCATION

You are an experienced teacher. You shape minds and engage hearts every day. You change lives. It’s time to follow that desire to become an even better teacher—one that leads more effectively in your classroom, in your school, and in your district. The Master of Education (MEd) program will equip you to take the next step in your professional development, moving your career forward. You also have the option to add an additional endorsement to your certification.

Master in TEACHING

Our Master in Teaching (MIT) program is designed for those with an undergraduate degree who’d like to get their teaching certificate. This degree will help you accomplish two goals simultaneously: earn your teaching certificate and master’s degree. Best of all, you’ll do it in less than one year.

SUBJECT ENDORSEMENTS

We offer two online endorsements for certificated teachers. While endorsement programs are not eligible for financial aid, there are a number of grants and scholarships available. These endorsements include the following:

COLLEGE SOCIAL & BEHAVIORAL SCIENCES of

Master of Arts in CLINICAL MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELING

DEVELOP PROFESSIONAL IDENTITY AND SKILLS

At Northwest University, we will equip students to become compassionate professional counselors who are able to integrate counseling theories with clinical skills. Graduates of our program work in various clinical work settings across the nation, including private practices, hospitals, and community mental health agencies.

EMBRACE DIVERSITY AND CULTURAL COMPETENCIES

Students will learn in a richly diverse cohort environment. The program will prepare students to develop multicultural counseling competencies as students engage with diverse cohort members, and work with varied client populations.

ON-CAMPUS AND ONLINE PROGRAMS

Our program classes are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with periodic weekend classes possible. Our campus is located in beautiful Kirkland, Washington, with nearby public parks, restaurants, and Lake Washington. Students in our online program are able to take all classes through our industry-leading electronic learning management system, with three annual

on-campus residencies required. We use state-of-the-art technology in preparing students through synchronous and asynchronous learning and committed support by faculty and staff.

EXPERIENCED AND COMMITTED FACULTY

Our diverse faculty integrates their experienced clinical work into the coursework. Many faculty are also licensed practitioners in the field and contribute scholarly work in the counseling field. They have presented in national and global conferences and workshops. Students will learn and be mentored by the faculty throughout their time at Northwest University. Our students will receive weekly clinical supervision from faculty during their field training experiences.

HOLISTIC APPROACH

At Northwest University, we believe in preparing counseling students from a holistic approach. Our students will be taught from various theoretical perspectives including humanistic, faith and spiritual integration, existential, and best clinical practices.

Northwest University’s doctoral program in counseling psychology is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of the American Psychological Association (APA). COLLEGE SOCIAL & BEHAVIORAL SCIENCES of

Doctor of Psychology in COUNSELING PSYCHOLOGY

LOCATION

Our campus is located in the east suburbs of Seattle, within a mile of public parks, beaches, local markets, restaurants, and world renowned organizations.

TRAINING

We are dedicated to training effective, ethical, and culturally competent psychologists. We utilize the practitioner-scholar model, which focuses on the integration of theoretical knowledge with practical, theory-informed, evidence-based skills.

SUPPORT

The small student-to-faculty ratio (paired with a cohort model) increases the strength of mentor relationships, dissertation support, engagement, and community building opportunities in the program.

COMPETENCY

The program prepares students for a variety of professional work settings: private practice, academia, health service psychology, authorship, consulting, research, and more.

DISTINCTIVENESS

During an international trip in the first year of the program, students immerse themselves to experience new environments and populations, become more culturally competent, and grow in cultural self-awareness.

CENTER for LEADERSHIP STUDIES

GREAT LEARNERS MAKE GREAT LEADERS.

The Center for Leadership Studies (CFLS) is home to Northwest’s interdisciplinary PhD and EdD programs in organizational leadership. These degrees prepare students to lead the leaders of our day. Designed for working professionals, the Center’s programs make it possible for PhD students to graduate in four years and EdD students to graduate in three years.

WHY CHOOSE OUR DOCTORAL PROGRAMS?

FINANCIAL SUPPORT

The CFLS offers five types of financial assistance, including a first-year grant, a matching discount for nonprofit employees, two research grants, and a new student referral tuition credit.

TWO DEGREE OPTIONS

The PhD focuses on scholarship, original research, and the generation of new theory. Our EdD is shorter and more practical, helping students apply existing research to problems in the field.

FOUR CONCENTRATIONS

Students have access to four concentrations: leading ministry organizations, higher education leadership, business leadership and consulting, and interdisciplinary leadership.

COHORT-BASED

Our programs offer small, diverse cohorts. Students learn alongside peers who encourage and challenge each other to grow.

DISSERTATION COMPLETION

Each semester features core, concentration, and dissertation classes so students are working on their dissertation research and writing skills from day one.

HYBRID DELIVERY

Designed for working professionals, our low-residency program involves just three on-campus weeks yearly, supplemented by online learning.

NO GRE REQUIRED

Our entering students already hold a master’s degree, so no GRE is required for admission.

The Master in Ministry degree is designed to prepare students for vocational or lay ministry in a variety of contexts, including those seeking their ministerial credentials as well as anyone seeking entry into ministry.

GRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN CHRISTIAN LEADERSHIP

The Graduate Certificate in Christian Leadership is for those who wish to develop a biblical and theological framework applicable in Christian leadership.
