Travis Roy Ice Arena

NYA combines challenging college prep academics with a strong hockey program, allowing studentathletes to achieve their best both in the classroom and on the ice.

NYA is dedicated to providing elite training facilities for aspiring college athletes. NYA’s oncampus ice arena is named after former Panther star Travis Roy, whose college career at Boston University was cut short by a severe neck injury. The arena boasts one of the top hockey training facilities in Maine. Travis Roy Arena includes a full weight room, cardio room, training room, newly renovated locker rooms, and coaches offices. All players have access to NYA’s certified athletic trainer and strength and conditioning coach.

Exceptional coaching, top-rated facilities, and a competitive schedule are hallmarks of NYA hockey. Our interscholastic hockey program for boys begins in Middle School. Students in grades six through eight practice daily and play approximately 20 games each season. All teams have significant daily ice time and a competitive schedule. Our experienced coaches support students in their growth and development, both as students and athletes.

Stride Envy Skill Development NYA is fortunate to have Stride Envy Skating as our source for player skill development. Stride Envy’s philosophy emphasizes proper technique, practice, and focused training that will produce more efficient and productive hockey players. The Stride Envy staff works regularly throughout the season with varsity and junior varsity boys, girls, and Middle School teams.

The NYA boys varsity team plays in the New England Prep School Athletic Conference (NEPSAC). NYA is on the ice with some of the strongest prep hockey teams throughout New England, along with skating against the best teams in Maine. The 30-game Prep schedule offers NYA student-athletes the opportunity to compete against some of the country’s best high school players and to be seen by college scouts and recruiters. The junior varsity program acts as a developmental team with a strong focus on skill development. The JV team competes against other prep JV and varsity B teams, as well as public school varsity and JV teams.
