NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY

When your grandchild starts at NYA, so do you. The first day of school is special, whether it’s your grandchild’s very first day in preschool or her senior year. Will he write his name for the first time? Will he be inspired by poetry? Will she discover a passion for biology or marine ecology? Being an NYA grandparent comes with enormous benefits – seeing your grandchild get a world-class education is certainly one, but so is being a part of NYA’s larger community. All adults at NYA - teachers, parents, grandparents and staff alike - are integral to our community of learners. And, as is true at every independent school, being part of a community comes with an opportunity - to support the school in ways that are meaningful for your family.

why giving matters The cost to educate each child at NYA is higher than the tuition, as it is at virtually all independent schools in the U.S. Charitable contributions enable us to minimize tuition increases and allow you to invest in the premium education from which your grandchild benefits. Your participation allows NYA to provide each child with an outstanding education by attracting and retaining the best teachers and most qualified students, and ensures that NYA has the programs and facilities that support a broad and challenging educational experience.

Every gift, no matter the size, ensures that NYA will continue to develop independent thinkers who value learning, creativity, and the intellectual process throughout their lives.

how to give Our goal is to have every family participate to the extent that they are able. We ask you to make NYA one of your family’s top charitable priorities while the Academy is your grandchild’s educational home.

NYA offers a variety of ways for you to be involved philanthropically: The Academy Fund The foundation of NYA’s culture of philanthropy, The Academy Fund provides our school with unrestricted funds to support all areas of the operating budget.

Leadership Giving NYA’s Leadership Giving Circles recognize donors who make aggregate gifts of $1,000 or more during the fiscal year (July 1 to June 30). Membership brings with it invitations to special events and special recognition in the appropriate giving circle. If you can consider a gift at the leadership level, please contact the Development Office.

NYA Soiree Each spring, NYA hosts a special fundraising event, NYA Soiree, in support of school-wide initiatives. The event, supported by a team of volunteers, is a mainstay of community and fundraising activities.

Planned Giving Planned gifts come in many forms, from bequests to charitable trusts. Some options provide income to you and your family; others may have significant tax benefits; and all of them ensure healthy future support for NYA. If you are interested in learning more, please contact the Development Office.

ways to give Cash or Check: the most immediate and direct way to support the school. Securities: can result in significant tax benefits to the donor. Matching gifts: offered by many employers. Ask yours if it offers this benefit. Donor-advised funds: a flexible and easy way to support the school. “NYA has provided a challenging and supportive educational experience for our grandchildren. We could not be more pleased with the results. We choose to invest in an NYA education because we believe in its transformative power. By giving, we strengthen the school that means so much to our family.” David and Pamelia Adams, grandparents of Muriel ‘15 and Michael ‘17

how to volunteer We welcome volunteer support from grandparents. There are many ways to give your time to NYA, ranging from longer-term commitments to a few hours each year. Grandparents’ Council Every NYA grandparent may join the Grandparents’ Council. The Grandparents’ Council acts in a supportive capacity to strengthen the school and its programs and to promote school spirit and a sense of community through active volunteer participation. All are invited to attend Grandparents’ Council meetings, which provide an opportunity to connect with school leadership and hear updates on important school-related topics. Please contact the Development Office for more information and a meeting schedule.
