Founded in 1814, North Yarmouth Academy is one of the oldest private college preparatory day schools in the state of Maine. Its beautiful historic campus is located on 25 acres in downtown Yarmouth, Maine, only 10 miles north of Portland. Experience Summer! programs at NYA offer children ages 4 through 18 the chance to experience the dynamic learning opportunities and individualized growth that are the hallmarks of an NYA education. SUPER SUMMER DAY CAMP ................................................ 3 Super Summer Day Camp is designed for ages 5 to 10 and offers something for everyone. Our eight sessions offer an exciting theme each week and will engage students in a variety of fun, hands-on activities that are sure to keep them excited! From sports to cooking, Legos to treasure maps, these programs are sure to captivate children of any age.
ART CAMPS ........................................................................................... 5 Our art programs emphasize both product and process. We support the personal and artistic growth of all children, and encourage students to explore the world around them as they develop their own style and means of self-expression. We foster a sense of community among our students as we share our work and learn from each other.
SPORTS CAMPS .................................................................... 6 Our sports camps are designed to encourage students to develop the disposition needed for good sportsmanship, leadership, and teamwork. Students will benefit from the expertise of seasoned coaches who bring their extensive knowledge and passion for sports to a variety of activities. These camps are designed to help students develop skills, techniques, expose them to game and match situations and most importantly, to have fun!
ENRICHMENT CAMPS .......................................................... 9 Our enrichment opportunities are designed to support student readiness and comprehension in specific content areas and are taught by NYA faculty as well as guest instructors. Our courses offer students the opportunity to target their passions through off-campus, hands-on experiential learning.
CIRCUS ARTS CAMPS ......................................................... 12 Designed to nurture the inner acrobat, performer, juggler and clown in a supportive and physically active environment under the tutelage of circus professionals.

SESSION 1: MAGIC & MYSTERY
June 16 -20, 8:30 – 3:00 pm Cost: $280, Ages: 5 - 10 The world is full of magic and mystery and this week we will learn magic tricks, write our own mysteries, solve “crimes” and check out a real magician in action. June 23 – 27, 8:30 am – 3:00 pm Cost: $280, Ages: 6 - 9 Campers will spend a week playing a variety of sports including soccer, basketball, tennis, and more. Days will be filled with sport-specific instruction designed to expose children to a range of athletic activities and opportunities for cultivating teamwork and leadership. This one-week program allows children to explore our outdoor environment and study the things that make our Maine woods so special. Children will have the opportunity to identify plants and leaves, learn about Maine animals and discover how to keep our world and environment a beautiful place. SESSION 3: AROUND THE WORLD
June 30 – July 3, 8:30 – 3:00 pm Cost: $224, Ages: 5 - 10 Come travel the world this week as we explore the culture, music, arts and flavors of countries around the world. Each day will be an adventure as you try your hand at cooking an ethnic dish, learn and play an unfamiliar sport, speak a new language, create a work of art and sample some of the instruments and sounds of faraway places. SESSION 4: GARDENS, FAIRIES & GNOMES
July 7 – 11, 8:30 – 3:00 pm Cost: $280, Ages: 5 - 10 Do you have a green thumb? What can you find in a Farmer’s Market? Where do fairies and gnomes live? Plan on taking a walk in the woods and through the garden to find the answers to these questions and more as we build terrariums, plant seeds, build fairy and gnome homes and try your hand at growing, cooking and eating things from the garden. July 7-11, 8:30 – 3:00 pm Cost: $280, Ages: 4 - 7 During this one-week program, children will get the chance to “dive into” the world’s oceans! From clown fish to coral, to beaches and boats! July 21 - 25. 8:30 – 3:00 pm Cost: $280, Ages: 5 - 10 We will put science to the test this week as we create contraptions that fly, roll and jump using paper, recycled materials, Legos and more. We will take it one step further by also creating some delicious snacks, fanciful art and wild-sounding musical instruments. Put your thinking cap on this week to build and create something amazing! SESSION 6: WATER WEEK
July 28 – August 1, 8:30 – 3:00 pm Cost: $280, Ages: 5 -1 0 This week is wet! We will be exploring a local river and the ocean, investigating marine life, building our own sprinkler and taking a trip to Splashtown. This wild, wet and wonderful week will also be filled to the brim with crafts, food and science all focused around water. (Parents are welcome to join us at Splashtown.) August 11 – 15, 8:30 am – 3:00 pm Cost: $280, Ages: 5 - 10 Follow the clues and you will be rewarded! Come on a campus-wide treasure hunt, bake some pirate snacks and design your own treasure chest. Take to the seas as we cruise Casco Bay and explore the islands. Scavenger hunts, pirates, digging for buried treasure, and solving mysteries are just the beginning of the fun we will have this week. ART EXPLORATION
Session 2: July 23 – 27, 8:30 am – 3:00 pm Cost: $280, Ages: 5 - 10 This one week art-centric camp will encapsulate a variety of art activities from creation to appreciation. Art experiences will include studio time working in printmaking, painting, drawing, sculpture and photography. The studio time will be punctuated by trips to local galleries and museums to enjoy the local art scene as well as trips off campus to draw and paint landscapes. Art related games and Andy Goldsworthy inspired environmental installations will be a part of the program. Offcampus trips will be determined by the age of the group. ARTS & CRAFTS
Session 7: August 4 – 8, 8:30 am – 3:00 pm Cost: $280, Ages: 5 - 10 Creativity and imagination are the two key ingredients in this arts and crafts camp where students will explore a variety of hands-on activities. Probably messy, definitely fun! Each session includes projects with clay, needlework, beading, drawing and paper craft. Special activities this summer include embroidery, collage, self portraits, nature prints, silk screening and weaving. Don’t miss the “Artist Reception” on Friday. Use of natural materials, recycled items and your imagination will be the focus for many creations. Students will need to bring a lunch, two snacks, beverages and a 9x12 sketch pad. At the end of the week, there will be a performance showcase for friends & family. Daily activities will include: stretching, dance class, crafting, performance showcase preparation, and a media viewing of great dance performers. The performing arts aid in the growth of a child’s self-confidence, coordination, and creative expression. Join us for a week of fun, learning, and dance appreciation! MIDDLE SCHOOL GIRLS FIELD HOCKEY Session 3: June 30 – July 3, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm Cost: $150, Ages: 10 - 14 This camp is designed to help 10 to 14 year old girls develop sound field hockey fundamentals, a love of the game, and have fun! Players will learn individual skills, starting with how to hold a field hockey stick and progressing to dribbling, shooting, dodges, and individual defense while also working on team skills such as passing, team defense, corners and much more. Players will have a chance to learn and perfect their field hockey ability through both drills and fun games throughout the morning. The camp is designed so that campers can also sign up for the afternoon session, which focuses on lacrosse skills (please see Middle School Girls Lacrosse description).

HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS FIELD HOCKEY
Session 5: July 23 – 25, 8:30 am – 3:00 pm Cost: $175, Ages: 14 - 18 This camp is designed to help high school girls perfect their field hockey fundamentals, and get ready for their upcoming pre-season and regular season play. Players will work on individual skills, such as dribbling, shooting, dodges, and individual defense while also working on team skills such as passing, team defense, corners and much more. Players will enhance their skills through drills and stations throughout the morning, and will scrimmage after lunch. MIDDLE SCHOOL BOYS LACROSSE
Session 4: July 7 – 11, 8:30 am – 3:00 pm Cost: $280, Ages: 10 - 13 This camp is designed to help 10-13 year old boys develop sound lacrosse fundamentals. Players will learn both individual skills and team concepts, starting with passing, catching, and ground balls and advancing to shooting, dodging, and team concepts like defensive slides and offensive play. Session 1: June 16– 20, 8:30 am – 3:00 pm Session 6: July 28 – August 1, 8:30 am – 3:00 pm Cost: $300 per session, Ages: 8 - 13 Maine Premier Soccer and NYA will be partnering to offer a comprehensive soccer program on NYA’s campus for students ages 8-13. Each day will focus on one of the following themes: individual technique and skills, team tactics, formations, and individual and group fitness. As part of the program we will also incorporate some goalkeeping sessions for any goalkeepers who are interested in joining the camp. Alongside this, we will be running a Coaches Challenge where the students will compete against their coaches with prizes on the line. Session 4: July 7 - 11, 8:30 am – 3:00 pm Session 7: August 4 - 8, 8:30 am – 3:00 pm Cost: $280 per session, Ages: 6 - 9, coed This camp is designed to help kids enjoy a great sport at a young age. This camp will work on the basics of tennis and incorporate a lot of fun drills and games that will teach campers ages 6 to 9 how to play the game of tennis, and have a fun time in the process. MIDDLE SCHOOL TENNIS CAMP
Session 1: June 16 - 20, 8:30 am – 3:00 pm Session 2: June 23 - 27, 8:30 am – 3:00 pm Session 6: July 28 - August 1, 8:30 am – 3:00 pm Cost: $280 per session, Ages: 10 - 13, coed This camp is being offered for 10 to 13 year olds of all abilities. We will provide a strong basis of fundamentals for the beginner as well as the strategy and instruction for advanced players to be able to further their game. In the morning campers will work on drills and improving their technique and form in their strokes, while the afternoon will focus on strategy and match play. At the end of the camp participants will be left with an analysis of how to improve their strokes, drills and tips on how to continue to improve their game and a strategy of how to properly construct points. Players will have a great time, while learning to enjoy a sport they can play for the rest of their lives. Campers should bring a bag lunch, a water bottle, sun block, tennis shoes and a racket. If you want to crack your school’s line up, move up from the position you currently play on your lineup, or make it one level further in your next tournament, this camp is for you. We will help you with conditioning, match strategy, improvement to stroke form and technique and improve your footwork. If you are serious about improving your game, this camp is for you. WRITING PROGRAM: From the Page to the Microphone
Session 2: June 23 - 27, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm Cost $295, Ages: 11 - 15 Do you like poetry, storytelling, and writing? Want to perform but never had the chance? Join this spoken word workshop led by The Telling Room’s Sonya Tomlinson, aka hip-hop artist, Sontiago. You will write and rehearse an original, collaborative piece on a shared theme to be performed in front of an audience of your family and friends at the end of the week’s camp. Session 5: July 21 – 25, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm Cost: $255, Ages: 9 - 12 Don’t let those math skills you’ve acquired disappear over the summer! There are no illusions here, just a hat full of math tricks that will leave you better prepared for the coming school year. We will review basic operations and mathematical processes; you’ll gain confidence in skills you know and learn new ones as well. Master division with the snap of a finger! Abracadabra, you’re reducing fractions! What’s the product of “Shazzam times 2?” Well, we don’t know that one either, BUT join us for this course and you’ll amaze yourself as the answers to other problems appear like magic, right before your eyes. In this fun, hands on course we will explore electricity and circuits, motors, gears, pulleys, leverage, and flight. From the basic flow of electrons to the physics of flight, this program will explore ancient discoveries still used today as well as modern advances. Enrichment Camps SAT PREP COURSE
August 18 – 22, 5:30-8:30 pm (the first week of NYA pre-season practice) Cost: $475, includes review book, Age: rising juniors and seniors Sessions will be spent reviewing important concepts, strategies, directions, and tips, as well as practicing questions, correcting mistakes, and practicing some more. During the course, students will have plenty of time to gain experience answering questions in test-like conditions, but of course, the more they practice on their own, the better. Rising Juniors! If you sign up for the summer course, you will also have access to our 3-hour review session before the spring SAT’s at no extra charge. Exact date and time of the spring review will be announced later. FRACTURED FAIRY TALES
Session 3: June 30 - July 3, 8:30 am – 3:00 pm Cost: $224, Ages: 7 - 10 During this week campers will be invited to take familiar fairy tales and folk tales and turn them upside down. After hearing an oral telling of each story, campers will have the opportunity to create new endings, tell the story from a different perspective, create new characters and much more! Campers will be introduced to a variety of graphic organizers and other tools to enhance organization and communicate more effectively. At the end of the week they will share their fractured tale through skits, songs, comic strips or other presentation methods. Whether this is a child’s first exposure to the circus basics or whether they are ready to delve deeper into specific skills and work on character development, professional circus artists are ready to help all students jump in the ring. Aerials, acrobatics, juggling, unicycling, pyramids and performance techniques are just some of the skills campers will have the opportunity to develop. Your kids will make astounding progress in a matter of days although we do recommend two back-to-back weeks, if at all possible, to give students a deeper immersion in circus arts training. Students will be divided into smaller groups based on prior experience and ability. Instructors will meet each individual at their own level, whether beginning, intermediate or advanced. Each student will have individualized attention and be coached according to their ability. More advanced students will be given appropriate instruction and may also schedule private classes throughout the summer. All children, especially the younger ones, will be given plenty of outdoor time and other activity to balance the physicality of circus training. Each session ends with an exhibition on NYA’s campus that will be open to students’ family and friends. The NYA-Circus Atlantic camp offers ideal physical conditioning for kids of all ages and is useful for dancers, gymnasts and athletes, while also developing dramatic style and showmanship.
