Aerial silks, acrobatics, juggling, human pyramids and performance techniques are just some of the activities campers will have the opportunity to explore. We recommend two back-to-back weeks, if at all possible, to give students a deeper immersion in circus arts training, and a chance to find their delight. Students will be divided into smaller groups based on prior experience and ability; instructors will meet each individual at their own ability level, whether beginning, intermediate, or advanced. Each student will receive individualized attention and enjoy the chance to personalize their training according to their goals. More advanced students will also have the opportunity to schedule private lessons throughout the summer. All children, especially the younger ones, will be given plenty of outdoor time and other activity to balance the physicality of circus training . . . having fun can be an intense workout! Your kids will make astounding progress in a matter of days. Each session ends with an exhibition on NYA’s campus that will be open to students’ family and friends. The NYA-Circus Maine camp offers ideal physical conditioning and flexibility development for kids of all ages and is also useful for dancers, gymnasts, and athletes. Students with an interest in the theatre and drama will find circus arts useful for developing dramatic style and showmanship. This is an exciting, fun, and high-energy camp with an emphasis on clowning around like you mean it!
