MG revives XPower brand for fasterMG4

MG is introducing a new rangetopping version of the MG4 with more power, improved handling and sportier styling.

The brand has revived the XPower name, which was created by MG Rover, in 2001, for its motorsport subsidiary.

The MG4 XPower is currently available for order and is priced starting at £36,495. It has a dual motor powertrain that produces 435PS and up to 600Nm of torque. The car can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 3.8 seconds thanks to it.

The vehicle has a combined maximum range of 239 miles when using a 64kWh battery. It is equipped with a 7kW AC onboard charger, allowing for a five-hour charge from empty to full. It can also be charged using a DC quick charger at speeds of up to 140 watt, enabling it to run from 10% to 80% in 35 minutes at a compatible charger.

Subtle styling changes include orange ‘XPower’ brake callipers, a two-tone black roof, 18-inch alloy wheels and polished trim accents, alongside a new Racing Green colour option. As well as offering impressive straight-line performance, the enhanced drivetrain features technological upgrades to effectively distribute power and maximise driver engagement while cornering.

For the first time on an MG, a brand-new Dynamic Cornering Control System will be offered. It includes a locking electronic differential and Intelligent Motor Control to enable torque vectoring between all four wheels, resulting in maximum traction and exceptional composure in a variety of driving circumstances.

Additionally, a number of suspension improvements have been finished, including new spring and damper tuning, firmer anti-roll bars, and quicker steering. When compared to the MG4, the overall suspension stiffness has improved by up to 25%.

MG’s engineering team has also recalibrated the regenerative braking software to allow one pedal driving in suitable situations.

Guy Pigounakis, commercial director at MG Motor UK, said: “We’re confident the MG4 XPower will shake-up the market like the MG4 SE and Trophy, showing that a compact EV can be affordable, practical and a terrific drive.”

“We expect it will appeal to customers looking for a pure performance offering which is the antithesis of the traditionally ‘loud’ high performance hatchback. The XPower also retains the generous technology and equipment levels, as well as practical hatchback features, of the awardwinning MG4 range.”
