City players are great sports - Norwich City match day programme

CSF City players are great sports Founded in 2009 by the Premier League and Sport England, and now delivered by 34 professional football clubs, PL4S engaged a quarter of a million young people nationwide last year. The scheme sees links formed with local secondary schools and community sports facilities to form ‘satellite sports clubs’. “Clubmark” clubs set up in the local area provide exit route opportunities to participants who would like to take their involvement in the sport further – and hopefully provide Great Britain with its next generation of sporting stars. To the casual observer at Colney last week, it may have surprised some to turn a corner and see Bradley Johnson perfecting his table tennis serve, Cameron Jerome squaring up with boxing gloves and Carlos Cuellar taking aim with a handball. Even more so to see John Ruddy and Elliott Bennett practising their netball shooting and blocking techniques on each other. But fear not City fans – they’ve not traded in the day job - the players were using their modelling skills to help promote the Community Sports Foundation’s Premier League 4 Sport (PL4S) programme. Vadis Odjidja-Ofoe and Gary Hooper joined the fun; donning sports equipment for our cameras. Using the draw of Norwich City Football Club, the PL4S scheme gives participants aged between 11 and 19 the chance to play badminton, boxing, table tennis, netball, hockey, handball and basketball as part of the ongoing London 2012 Olympic legacy. This year’s offering, starting this month, sees PL4S continue across five hub sites in Norfolk: North Walsham High, Northgate High, Open Academy, Easton & Otley College and Lynn Grove High, with one more hub to be launched later this year. 01603 761122
