Foundation ready for Run Norwich

T

he Community Sports Foundation is gearing up for one of its biggest events of the year, which takes place on Sunday August 30th.

Run Norwich is a new 10-kilometre road race through the city centre, organised by CSF, with over 3,800 experienced and first time runners signed up to take part. The route starts and finishes outside City Hall and takes in some of Norwich’s most iconic landmarks along the way, including a lap outside Carrow Road. The race starts at 9:30am; the latest information for spectators, including travel and places to watch from, is available at www.runnorwich.org

Reaching out One of the aims of the event is to support local charities, and in addition to the Community Sports Foundation, three causes have been selected to benefit from the inaugural race. Nelson’s Journey, who work with bereaved children, Age UK Norwich, who help to improve the wellbeing of those in later life, and Norfolk Accident Rescue Service, who provide expert medical help at the scene of road crashes and other emergencies, will all receive fundraising from runners, t-shirt sales, and charity collections, to help sustain their excellent and vital work in the community. Faces in the crowd Among the field of 3,800 runners will be a

few faces that are familiar to Canary fans. Foundation trustee and BT Sport presenter Jake Humphrey will be taking on his first 10K race and has been following a training plan from former Olympian Paul Evans. Jake has documented his progress, which was disrupted by the birth of his second child, in a blog with the Norwich Evening News and at www.runnorwich.org. Ex-Canary Paul McVeigh will join Laura Ruddy, John Ruddy’s wife, on the start line. In 2012, McVeigh completed the Virgin London Marathon. All three will be raising money for the Community Sports Foundation and can be sponsored on their BT MyDonate fundraising pages.
