KIT BOOST FOR CSF PARTICIPANTS

ver the past couple of months, the Norwich City Community Sports Foundation (CSF) have been supporting participants on a number of its programmes by providing them with free sports kit and equipment. The giveaway aimed to benefit disadvantaged and disabled individuals - and so far, over a hundred sets of kit have been distributed. For the Foundation’s Street Life Soccer programme, which engages with local refugees and vulnerably-housed individuals through football, the kit donation was of particular importance. Ian Hill, CSF Adult Education Development Officer, said: “Many of the guys and girls on the programme are really hampered by their lack of suitable clothing, something which becomes

unfortunately more apparent in the winter months. Sports clothing and equipment can be really expensive, and just isn’t something that many of our participants can afford. “To be able to provide each participant with a brand new set of quality sports clothing free of charge is fantastic,” he continued. “They’ve been delighted with the items and it’s great for team-spirit.” Each pack of CSF-branded sports clothing contained a long-sleeved training top, a t-shirt, shorts and socks. Adults and children on a range of CSF’s disability programmes, including Norwich City FC’s Powerchair team, have also benefitted from the giveaway, while the kit was also well received by teenagers on the Kicks programme. Meanwhile, the giveaway hasn’t just
benefitted those in the local community. Canaries fan David Smith, who travelled with friends to Rio de Janeiro to undertake volunteer work in November, left underprivileged youngsters at a local football project with twenty-five sets of t-shirts and Norwich City FC shorts donated by the Foundation. Mr Smith, who is a Norwich City season-ticket holder, spent seven weeks working with young children in St Teresa, one of the most deprived areas of the Brazilian city. David, who plans to revisit the project in February, said: “The kids had previously played in an assortment of old kits so to give them matching colours was great. “I was delighted to hear from one of the volunteers, a few weeks after I left Brazil, that the children still all wear their kit at sessions.”

ebruary Half-term is fast approaching which means one thing: the return of Norwich City Soccer Schools! The Foundation will be running two-day Soccer Schools at a number of locations including Norwich (Carrow Park), Cromer, Dereham, Gorleston, North Walsham, Attleborough and Beccles.
Norwich City Soccer Schools, run by the Foundation since 1992, provide thousands of children aged 5 to 11 with a top-flight football experience every year with a host of fun drills, games and, subject to availability, the chance to meet a Norwich City FC player.
