2020 Residency Conference: Monday, June 22 to Friday, June 26, 2020 All Norwich master’s degree programs culminate in a required, weeklong capstone residency conference on campus. During this transformative week, students present final projects or papers, participate in case studies and hands-on exercises, and solidify friendships and professional connections with classmates and professors. Commencement ceremonies conclude the week.

For two centuries the educational philosophy of Alden Partridge has been Norwich’s touchstone for the mental, moral and physical development of future leaders of our nation and the world. This year we celebrate our mission and our community; we commit ourselves to all that Norwich represents, and we commemorate our storied history and legacy of leadership and service. Founded in 1819, Norwich University celebrates its bicentennial in 2019. In fulfillment of Norwich’s mission to train and educate today’s students to be tomorrow’s global leaders, Norwich launched the Forging the Future campaign in 2014. The five-year campaign, which culminates in December 2019, is committed to creating the best possible learning environment through state-of-the-art academics and worldclass facilities and is designed to enhance the university’s strong position as it steps into its third century of service to the nation.

TOP NEWS HIGHLIGHTS Norwich University President Richard W. Schneider announced that the Forging the Future bicentennial campaign has raised $118 million, well beyond the increased goal of $110 million announced in January and in advance of the December 2019 campaign end. The original goal for the five-year campaign, announced in 2014, was $100 million. Final projects completed under the Forging the Future campaign in 2018-2019 included: North Hall renovations; Dewey Hall renovations; and the construction of the Bicentennial Stairs and the Staff and Faculty Tribute. With the conclusion of the campaign, 96% of all academic space is either brand new or newly renovated. President Richard W. Schneider and Sen. Patrick Leahy, (D-Vt.) announced in March 2019 the award of three major contracts totaling approximately $7.3 million. These awards continue Leahy’s longstanding support of cybersecurity education programs and research at Norwich University. The fall 2019 academic year begins with a new School of Cybersecurity, Data Science, and Computing in order to increase students’ opportunities to integrate these tools into their learning. The College of Graduate and Continuing Studies launches Norwich PRO, flexible, online certificates and courses for continuing professional education offering marketable knowledge and soughtafter skills such as: Military History, Project Management, Corporate Compliance, Supply Chain, Leadership and more. Founded in 1819, Norwich University celebrated its bicentennial in 2019 with celebrations around the country, at the Vermont State House, and in the university’s hometown of Norwich, Vermont.

Men’s Ice Hockey won its 13th NEHC Tournament title with a 2-1 win over Hobart College at Kreitzberg Arena. First-year head coach Cam Ellsworth guided NU to a 23-5-2 record. The Cadets qualified for their 18th NCAA Tournament appearance and made their 13th NCAA Division III Frozen Four appearance after defeating Univ. of New England 2-1 in overtime in the quarterfinals. Norwich beat SUNY Geneseo in the semifinals 4-2, before ultimately falling 3-2 in overtime in the NCAA Division III National Championship game to UW-Stevens Point in Wisconsin. Junior goalie Tom Aubrun tied the single-season record for shutouts with six en route to earning AHCA Third Team AllAmerican honors. He was named the NEHC co-Player of the Year and the Goalie of the Year. Sophomore forward Scott Swanson became the sixth player in program history to win the Elite 90 Award, given to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA at the finals site. Men’s Lacrosse won its second GNAC Tournament title and first since 2013 with an 8-6 victory over top-seeded Lasell College. The Cadets posted a 13-5 overall mark, bowing out in its second-ever NCAA Tournament appearance with a loss to New England College in the play-in round. Norwich had nine players named to the GNAC All-Conference teams, including four First Team selections in Cody Moore, Peter Orlandella, Joseph Santangelo and Jacob Center. Moore scored 44 goals and notched 16 assists for 60 points to rank fifth on the all-time NU single season scoring list. Santangelo shattered the previous program single-season best ground ball mark of 99 with 124 ground balls on the year. Head coach Neal Anderson became the first coach in program history to record 100 career wins and extend his lead as the all-time winningest coach in Norwich men’s lacrosse history. Men’s Rugby continued its impressive recent run, qualifying for both the USA Rugby Division II 15s and 7s National Tournaments for the third straight season. The Cadets swept the Rugby Northeast 15s and 7s titles for the second year in a row and finished the third straight year undefeated vs. conference opponents. NU went 9-2 in the fall 15s season, finishing tied for ninth in the country after picking up a consolation round win at the regionals in North Carolina. Norwich is 33-4 over the last three seasons in 15s matches. In the spring, the Cadets won three tournament titles, including the Ariel Re Bermuda 7s title for the first time in three trips over the last four years with a perfect 6-0 record. Norwich also won its own Chris Munn 7s Tournament title and the Rugby Northeast 7s title. The Cadets finished the 7s season with a 21-10-3 record, including a 2-3 mark at the USA Rugby 7s National Championships in Tucson, Ariz. NU went 2-1 in pool play on Day 1, before dropping two tough matches in the knockout stage on Saturday. The Cadets finished in seventh place for the second straight year. Emily Oliver ’19 became the first student-athlete in school history to be named the GNAC Woman of the Year. She was a three-sport athlete in volleyball, women’s basketball and softball and also carried a 3.94 GPA as a mechanical engineering major with a pre-med track. Oliver became the 15th CoSIDA Academic All-American in school history with her selection to the Third Team Academic All-American squad for softball as well.
