-
Academic School Project 2007 Sep.2007 - Jan.2008 Yi-lan / Taiwan
Earlier Taiwan was occupied by Japan. The distribution of industry is depended on economical and transportation factors, so nowadays the factories usually locate in the heart of city. With urban development, many industries shift from city, but the old factory cannot easily be migrated. The Yi-lan Winery is an example under this circumstance. Maybe it will be a little eccentric that a factory is located near the city, however, these unique backgrounds give the place more opportunities.

INDUSTRIAL TRANSFORMATION Yi-lan Winery was found in 1909 during Japanese occupation, after a number of reforms and the end of World War II, became a national enterprise. In 1988, government allow public to visit winery, trying to transfer winery into a leisure place for traveling. Therefore, the works making wine began to shift slowly from city to country. When winery located in the center of city, losing it’s original function; when winery becomes empty, the remaining winery force to confront the new issue.

Around the wall, there are a lot of historic relics, and winery is one of them. However, with urban development, some historic relics replace by huge commercial space (Luna Plaza). On the west of old city distract is Yi-lan River and field. Recently Yi-lan River under a well-rounded planning by local government.

THE VALUE The most precious things in old winery are those dusty equipments and the memories of that time. Most part of winery has been idle and abandoned, but people are curious about industrial spaces and equipments. Walking in old winery like walk in a time tunnel. Mottled walls, rusty pipes and bursting white smoke, all of them bring people back to the past.

LIQUOR STOREHOUSE Among all factory building, liquor storehouse grabs my attention. Regular windows, mottled walls, damp air, slight fragrance of liquor, and time seems to static with those wines. Whether rainy or sunny days, light never exist here. Compare with the square outside, storehouse seems to be more obscure.

EXPERIENCE The liquor storehouse is composed by six houses, three of them in a type and others in a type. Tourists usually easily ignore here because those cold and solid walls. However, when I go into the roof, I discover that people not only can overlook whole winery, but also can see Yi-lan River. So, I try to guild people come to this space and experience the unique atmosphere.

Concept
TWO TYPES OF LIQUOR FLOWING The atmosphere from liquor storehouse to square full of wine box is totally different. Storehouses are full of moisture and dark and time seems to be static here; the square is full of comfortable flowing air and can tolerate a lot of activities. Therefore, I translate two ways, penetrate and leak, to describe these circumstances. On on hand, there are many subtle streams flowing between original walls and holes in liquor storehouse. On the other hand, there is a wide range of flowing in the square, covering the square by leaking or flowing over from liquor storehouse.

Waiters carry wine shuttling between walls, people can seat both side of space and use a relax way to appreciate the movement of these fluid. When weather is nice, people can also take the wine and go to roof terrace, watching Yi-lan River and sky full of stars. After all, it’s more comfortable for drinking wine at night.

The cyberspace constantly exist in people’s live, erosion and compression of the real space at the same time. Therefore, the real space tends to be plane, just like browsing the web, shuttling in many flat worlds. People will not feel differences between each other during the process because we can cross geographical conditions without consuming much energy.

About the internet
REALITY Each of media, including cyberspace, can “represent the true and copy original information. Those new experiences have integrated into our living and became our life in real space. In fact, our experiences are constructed in photos, videos, news, and TV images, rather than based on real experiences.
With the invention of technology, the boundary of reality and visual become unclear. Cyberspace shakes the differentiation between real and virtual, it was said to have distorted and transformed the real space. Since invention of the printing, radio, television, movie and cell phone, the boundary of real and virtual becomes blurred.

FLUID Cyberspace is a medium allows people to explore and play the role of the recognition on the internet. When offline and return to real world, it also changed in some different experiences and variety moods. Similarity, when we pounding the keyboard and surfing the internet in the real world, our memory, personality and social relation will not disappear.
Whether on-line or offline, people will realize that their own life. Our actions may be affected by both cyber and real space. Perhaps these two spaces are separated or they may be mobile. We live in one space and the another is also related.
About the internet
NON-PLACE In traditional space, people are connected by living in the same place or having similar interests, and thus interactive occurred. In the network space, however, people can browse the same websites or networks by various factors or without any conditions. Therefore, I start wondering in the complicated reality whether a space could get rid of constraints and therefore exist due to those irrelevant connections.

KEELUNG Internaional Freight Domestic Freight High Way
Keelung is one of early development city in Taiwan. Because of colonial rule, here become an important port for export; because of strategic value, here was a lambasted battlefield. Nevertheless, with the time changing, Keelung passes into minority city which has population emigration problems in northern Taiwan due to vulnerable geographic conditions, which has limited available ground, and difficulties of industrial transformation. Besides, the weather particularly notes for itshigh rainfall year-round, with more than 230 rainy days, contributing to its nickname of "Rain Port". Fog is also serious during winter and spring.

ALIENATION The harmony but alienate connection is exactly the network relationship. Many people may be unfamiliar with each other, but they will browse the same websites or the social network. Because of anonymity, user can do something that they tend to avoid or resist in real life, and thus many impossible become possible on the network. For example, shame introverted people would not to express their own thinking in real life, but they may become a fluent writer in the Internet. Idea for Action Kaohsiung / 2009 International competition / Finalist work Jun.2009 - Aug.2009 Kaohsiung / Taiwan
In the past time, Kaohsiung used to be an industry-based city, which means that Kaohsiung city is depended on its port. Nowadays with the change of time, industrial transformation and resident looking forward a better living quality, Kaohsiung government conducted a series of construction. The most important part of construction is the management of Love River, which is a river flow through the center of city. By managing Love River, Kaohsiung city become one of the most comfortable cities in Taiwan. However, after managing river, how about the port? Perhaps Chong Dao will be the beginner of this plan. The rich lifestyles spread from Kaohsiung city, Cijin to the tip of Chong Dao, and thus Chong Dao, which originally out of daily life of Kaohsiung, can derive the elements of movie industry from the advantages.
