On the Nile

It’s always busy on the mighty River Nile!

Ancient Egyptians lift water from the river to drink and there are plenty of fish to catch – and even hippos to hunt! The river also helps people to travel up and down the country.

Can you add some fishing boats to the water

Add a snappy crocodile on to the riverbank!

Hard at work Every summer, the Nile floods which makes the soil nearby very healthy. This means it’s easy for farmers to grow barley and wheat in the fields by the river.

They use tools made from wood and flint. It’s hard work digging in the hot sun all day!

Can you add some farmers working hard in the fields

Now add some oxen pulling a plough.

Market day

Ancient Egyptians buy and sell fruits, vegetables and spices at the busy market. They also sell tools and furniture.

Use the stickers to add baskets of fruit to this market stall.

Traders travel along the Nile from other countries to bring exotic things like gold and ostrich feathers. Money hasn’t been invented yet, so instead, they swap things.

Add some more market stalls into the scene - it looks busy!

home life

It’s very hot and crowded in this village. People live in simple houses made from mud bricks.

They don’t have a lot of furniture – just a few tables and stools.

Can you add someone baking some bread

Stick another donkey into this scene!

Look how small the windows are! This helps to keep it cool inside. When it gets really hot at night, sometimes people even sleep on the roof.
