Types of trends

Megatrends are the underlying forces that are slow to form. But once megatrends are in place, they can influence a wide range of activities, processes and perceptions, possibly for decades.

Macrotrends are long-term (5-10 years) directional shift that affect a large population, often on a global scale. Macrotrends are the children of megatrends with specific focus areas.

Microtrends are specific shifts in consumer behaviour that are changing the business environment in the short-term (1-5 years). Microtrends are specific solutions built to address macrotrends.
