Site to concept

Hot air Wind

Vesicular texture is a volcanic rock texture

characterized by a rock being pitted with many cavities (known as vesicles) at its surface and inside. This is extended to the process of formation of western plain.

Cool surface

Advection is wind driven fog formation. In

this case warm air is pushed by winds across a cool surface where it condenses into fog. There is also fog formed over bodies of water.

Schematic section

The wind of Melbourne changes a lot in season along with air pressure. The simulation is showing that most high-rise buildings in city are forming wind tunnels for wind to go through at higher speed.

Fog generation

Base plan on grids

Upper plan blurring grids

The base plan of the site is laid out on grids and rationally oragnized with three densities to meet the requirement of urban plaza, windbreak garden, and central clearing.

The nature elements, or phenomenon in site are blurring the grids made for rationalization of the spaces. They seem more random and free.

16

17

Low - High - Low is the order of tree selection, the order creates the contrast and makes the central clearing higher and biger than before.

Grassy plaza

Vertical elements generating fog with gathering lawn for people to stay.

Central clearing

Windbreak garden

Shrubs and ponds are genarated with base terrain and the need for windbreak.

Sound

Smell The base terrain underneath is concave-convex for lowing down the speed and collecting runoff when rain comes.

Color

Three experience The base plan create three sense experience in terms of the adjcent buildings , views, and streets. The upper plan mainly organize the vertical experience of space transition.
